Clean Harbors Introduces an Online Pharmaceutical Waste Management Estimator for Hospitals

Presents Six Service/Cost Scenarios

NORWELL, MA - May 6, 2010 -Clean Harbors , the leading provider of environmental, energy and industrial services throughout North America, today announced an innovative online Pharmaceutical Waste Management Estimator for hospitals.

Available on Clean Harbors' Web site, the tool provides a menu of service/cost options and top-line estimates of costs. The online questionnaire, which takes just minutes to complete, requests basic organization, bed census and services information, and then responds via email, fax or postal mail with six service options that include services levels, frequency and three-year estimates.

Clean Harbors will be discussing the Pharmaceutical Waste Management Estimator at the CleanMed 2010 International Conference from May 11-13 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Booth #411.

"Clean Harbors is all about making pharmaceutical waste management easy, efficient, cost effective and compliant," said Clean Harbors Vice President, Healthcare John Kelsey. "We have found that many hospital decision makers do not realize that there are a number of service and cost options when it comes to handling and removing pharmaceutical wastes. The Estimator presents a menu of services at different price points, which enables administrators to choose a service level that fits their organizational and financial needs."

Six Service Options

The Estimator presents six cost/service options that range from managing and segregating only Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) waste to handling all hazardous and non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste. It outlines staffing combinations from primarily relying on in-house staff to fully outsourced solutions.
The Estimator is designed to provide initial data points that dispel uncertainty over service levels and costs when administrators research compliant pharmaceutical waste management programs. It can form the basis for executive discussion or become the first step in the pharmaceutical waste management decision process. "The Estimator gives administrators price points for each of the options. It is a great way to see the parameters and begin research into pharmaceutical waste management alternatives," concluded Kelsey.
