Clean Harbors' El Dorado Incinerator Receives VPP Star Certification

EL DORADO, Ark. - Clean Harbors, North America's leading provider of environmental, energy and industrial services, has received notice that its incineration facility located here has been certified under the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) at the Star Level.

El Dorado is the seventh and the largest Clean Harbors facility to receive VPP certification. Its more than 300 employees operate the incineration facility 24/7 specializing in the treatment of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulated wastes and non-hazardous wastes that require high temperature incineration. The El Dorado incinerator supports customers in the chemical, pharmaceutical and medical industries, as well as manufacturers, R&D facilities, universities and government agencies.

In its notification to Clean Harbors, OSHA cited the company's El Dorado management and employees' efforts to develop and implement VPP-quality safety and health management programs. VPP is a comprehensive health and safety process that requires employee involvement, management support, and cooperation with OSHA. Recipients demonstrate a strong management and employee safety culture that ensures a safe and healthful workplace environment, with occupational injury and illness incidence rates below the state and national averages for companies within the same industry classification.

"We are pleased to receive this certification for El Dorado," said Stephen Raab, Clean Harbors Senior Vice President, Health and Safety. "It is a testament to the successful efforts of the entire staff to build a workplace that exemplifies Clean Harbors' SafetyFirst! culture. This achievement, along with our other facilities that have previously qualified for VPP status, further demonstrates our continuing commitment to safety."
