Fully-equipped Mobile Unit Handles Onsite Mitigation of Hazardous Cylinders

NORWELL, MA - Clean Harbors, the leading provider of environmental, energy and industrial services throughout North America, today announced that it has deployed a self-contained mobile unit for quick response to emergency and routine mitigation, overpacking and transportation of cylinders and compressed gases.

The Cylinder Response Unit is a custom-built, 40-foot, fully self-contained, tractor trailer/sea container that can be quickly deployed throughout North America or shipped overseas. It is a complete cylinder response laboratory that arrives onsite with a team of highly trained cylinder specialists. The lab is capable of safely and efficiently hydrolyzing chemicals, and mitigating and removing cylinders and gases. It is designed to handle a wide range of hazardous contents, including Hydrogen Cyanide, Anhydrous (HCN), Tetrafluorohydrazine (TFH) and Pentaborane.

The lab includes its own generator and computers, as well as sampling equipment, process reactors, waste lines, two cylinder recovery vessels and flaring equipment. A section of the Cylinder Response Unit is a Department of Transportation (DOT) Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) permitted waste transportation space. This gives the option of shipping materials to the appropriate Clean Harbors waste disposal site using the company's normal fleet of trucks or in the Cylinder Response Unit.

"The Cylinder Response Unit is a custom tool chest that can handle any situation that may arise," commented Clean Harbors Cylinder Program Manager Clarence E. Isom. "We can deploy on short notice, roll up, plug in and immediately begin processing materials. Since we also handle transportation and disposal in our own facilities, we offer project simplicity and efficiency, and we can assure our customers that the cylinder mitigation and disposal process - from start to finish - meets the highest safety and regulatory standards."
