LIBERTYVILLE, IL, June 22, 2010 -- Demand for data center storage is now doubling every 24 months in the United States placing strain on the nation's information storage capabilities. While the number of data centers in the United States has grown from 400 a decade ago to more than 1,100 today, it has not kept pace with demand. One reason is that many datacenter builds and retrofits were put on hold during the recession. Now that is beginning to change.

"There is no question that the datacenter construction market is improving thanks to pent-up demand and a recovering economy," said Yolanda Hernandez, Director of Marketing for Chloride North America, a manufacturer of UPS systems for data centers. "What is different today are management priorities; data center construction once focused solely on computing power. Now we hear more about power protection to maximize network up-time."

This concern is well placed. Even the briefest of power outages can cost companies millions of dollars in sales, along with corrupted data, damaged hardware, and a loss in customer confidence. To meet this challenge, Chloride has refreshed and enhanced its power protection portfolio to be at the forefront of the data center recovery.

For smaller data centers and wiring closets Chloride offers its new MOD10 modular UPS system scaleable to fit a companies specific needs, and the EDP70 Plus UPS systems. Both provide outstanding reliability together with high efficiency and advanced battery care to guarantee lower running costs. Combining true online operation with microprocessor based controls and diagnostics, the systems offer a wide range of power outputs and standby time options. Both units are compact, lightweight and extremely quiet in operation.

For mid-sized data centers Chloride has developed its CP3000NV. Its high efficiency transformer-less design in both 480 V in/out and 208 V in/out applications reduces direct electrical and cooling costs, while decreasing weight, minimizing footprint, and simplifying installation. The advanced IGBT front end assures low input harmonics and simple generator interface.

Large, high-density datacenters present unique power protection problems that may be addressed by the Chloride 90-NET UPS. Engineered for applications calling for over 5 "9's" of availability, this series is available in single- or multi-module configurations of up to eight modules in sizes from 180 to 750 kVA with a 0.9 power factor. Robust design and technology, paralleling capability, and dual inputs assure the highest levels of system availability while setting new standards for efficiency, cost effectiveness, flexibility, and quiet operation.

"Chloride understands that the route to success is by investing heavily in research and development," explains Hernandez. "However, UPS technology is just one part of the equation. Customers should also consider our full range of services, from pre-sale site surveys through application engineering and project management to commissioning and maintenance."
