Fast-growing South African mobile operator powers through daily call records with Informatica data integration technology

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Jan. 7 -- Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ:INFA), a leading provider of data integration solutions, today announced that South Africa's leading value-offering cellular network operator, Cell C, South Africa's third largest mobile phone operator, has upgraded the data integration platform for its subscriber database to Informatica PowerCenter 64-bit to keep pace with dramatic growth in subscriber numbers and airtime.

Fast-growing Cell C, serving more than 3.3 million subscribers, has been a PowerCenter user since the company launched in November 2001. The move to the 64-bit version of PowerCenter was prompted by continued increases in the number of customer call records and the resultant need to avoid lengthy database load times that could negatively impact such key processes as Cell C's interconnection service and the company's financial reporting.

Transitioning to Informatica's 64-bit technology has enabled Cell C to substantially reduce its data integration processing times -- significantly shrinking batch load windows. Importantly, Cell C is now positioned for near-real time "trickle" loading of call records in support of pre-paid contracts and other high-growth services.

"With the industry's first 64-bit data integration platform, we are able to meet the mounting data volumes and increasing pressure from users for on-demand functionality and performance," said Leonard Kgoadi, MIS manager at Cell C. "As a result we are starting to look at daily stringing of data as opposed to batch processes, particularly on our pre-paid contracts."

"Mobile operators and Telcos deal with immense volumes of complex records every day, which can be leveraged to help drive more efficient services, customer retention and better informed business decisions," said John Poulter, senior vice president, EMEA Sales, Informatica. "More than 200 telecommunications companies around the world have turned to Informatica to help consolidate and manage their torrents of data and help turn it into useful knowledge. The 64-bit version of Informatica PowerCenter, in particular, can provide the elevated performance these and other data-driven enterprises increasingly need to sustain their business growth."
