Press release date: January 24, 2006

Waltham, MA, January 20, 2006, Carbon Design Systems, a leader in virtual system prototyping, announced today that it has established a Japanese subsidiary and has opened a direct sales office in Tokyo. Carbon Design Systems Japan K.K., a wholly owned subsidiary of Carbon Design Systems, will support Carbon's growing customer base in Japan and expand its sales channel capacity. Carbon's mainstay VSP(TM) product line, coupled with the introduction of its SOC-VSP(TM) product, has fueled the demand for a local presence.

"Carbon's products have the capacity, performance, and hardware accuracy required to validate the most demanding SoC designs, including the hardware and software content," explained Atsushi Ishii, President of Carbon Design Systems Japan K.K. "We have many opportunities to proliferate VSP in the Japanese market, including consumer electronics, communication, and multi-media companies. The recently announced SOC-VSP rounds out the product line by enabling a complete validation solution for ARMŽ-based SoCs that are prevalent in consumer electronics." "Investing in Japan was an easy decision. It not only broadens our major account sales coverage, but also allows us to provide local customer support to a growing user base. It is strategically important for Carbon to have close ties with many Japanese electronic design firms to drive our product development," stated Steve Butler, President and CEO at Carbon Design Systems. "Our seasoned team in Tokyo will keep our momentum going while tailoring our offering for the Japanese market."

About Carbon Carbon is delivering a high-performance virtual system prototyping solution that enables a system prototype to be rapidly assembled and functionally validated on the desktop months before silicon. Carbon's new software approach allows multiple levels of abstraction to be validated together including C, SystemC, Verilog and VHDL RTL, IP cores, transaction-level, and instruction-level models. The key to VSP is silicon accuracy and performance; the ability to execute billions of cycles and boot embedded operating systems, all with desktop software. The company is headquartered at 375 Totten Pond Road, Suite 100/200, Waltham, MA. 02451.
