Canon Virginia Names New President and CEO


NEWPORT NEWS, - Mr. Yusaku Azuma has been named president and CEO of Canon Virginia, Inc. (CVI).

Azuma will serve as CVI's fifth president replacing Takayoshi Hanagata who has been named chairman of Canon Virginia, Inc. Hanagata will remain at CVI's location in Newport News, VA.

"I am very excited to be named the new president and CEO of CVI," said Azuma. "I have previously lived in Virginia and enjoy the quality of life the Virginia Peninsula offers."

Azuma will also serve as President and CEO of Industrial Resources Technologies, Inc. (IRT), a joint venture between Canon Virginia and Canon U.S.A. in Lake Success, N.Y. IRT is located in Gloucester and reclaims toner cartridges.

After graduating from The Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan with an undergraduate and master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Azuma began his career with Canon Inc. in 1983. For 10 years, Azuma was involved in the design, research and development of automation assembly and robotic equipment. In 1995 he was appointed as director of Manufacturing Engineering at Canon Virginia and also served as project leader for the start-up and development of IRT. He served in this capacity until 2002 when he returned to Japan as general manager of Technical Engineering Solutions Division at Canon Inc. He returned to Virginia in 2008 as senior vice president and plant manager of CVI. He served in this capacity until being named president.

Azuma is married and has two daughters and one son.
