ZAP has packaged its battery technology exclusively for Canadian Tire under the "NOMA Pocket Power Charger" brand. The new product hit stores in September along with "Demomercials" on Canadian television highlighting the simplicity of ZAP's battery systems. ZAP also makes a line of rechargeable battery systems designed exclusively for the iPod called iZAP. The technology incorporates advanced battery and intelligent charging controls to provide a mobile power source for almost any kind of portable electronic device, from cell phones, to digital cameras, digital audio players and laptops. The systems include 13 adapter tips for a wide variety of rechargeable devices. More than just a battery, Recharge-It-All can automatically sense and deliver the appropriate voltage for a range of power settings.
"The Recharge-It-All line is the off-shoot of many years of research into a better electric car battery," said ZAP CEO Steve Schneider. Schneider said that ZAP has been testing similar battery technologies in its Xebra® electric car and truck as well as its other electric vehicles and expects to offer them as an upgrade in the near future.
Schneider uses the ZAP power packs when he travels to avoid what he calls "The black screen of death," what happens when you lose power on your cell phone or PDA on a business trip: loss of the Web browsing, E-mail, cell service and text messaging. Schneider says that the typical business traveler takes three different power adapters for their mobile devices when they travel; families traveling on vacation take an average of eight adapters. With the Recharge-It-All, you can power virtually all these devices using one power adapter and even power or recharge two at the same time through a USB or DC outputs.
