California Manufacturing Technology Consulting (CMTC)
690 Knox St., Suite 200
Torrance, CA, 90502
USA

Press release date: October 1, 2009

TORRANCE, CA - Southern California's small to medium size manufacturer's receiving consulting services from California Manufacturing Technology Consulting(TM) (CMTC) reported an overall $125 million increase in sales. When including business improvements from CMTC services, which helped avoid losing business due to current economic conditions, an additional $557 million in retained sales was reported, for a combined total of $682 million. An independent 3rd party (Turner Marketing) compiled the results in a survey between October 2008 and September 2009 from 700 companies served.

The survey results show total job benefit to the economy, a strong reminder of manufacturers' multiplier importance in establishing middle class, high paying jobs. For the one year period, manufacturing improvements translated into:

 4,006 created and retained manufacturing jobs  20,030 total created and retained manufacturing and supporting jobs

"During these difficult times, Southern California manufacturers are benefiting by embracing new production and management strategies. For the most part, Lean technologies and Quality techniques are being employed to reduce costs and improve customer service. A high percentage of these manufacturers will be more competitive as a result, remain in California and provide high-paying manufacturing jobs," said David Braunstein, President and CEO of CMTC.

The impact data was compiled by the market research firm Turner Marketing for the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP). CMTC is an affiliate of NIST MEP, under the Federal Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program, a network of more than 60 centers across the country that provide assistance to manufacturers.
