BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 8 // -- Eclipsys Corporation(R) (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company(R), today announced that the Calgary Health Region, Alberta, Canada has successfully activated Eclipsys Sunrise Clinical Manager at all of its adult care facilities, improving the quality, safety and efficiency of care delivered to more than 1.2 million people living in Calgary and the surrounding areas.
The Calgary Health Region engaged Eclipsys Consulting Group to co-develop an implementation strategy focused on achieving 100 percent computerized physician order entry (CPOE) within 18 months of activation. After just a few weeks following the activation of Sunrise Clinical Manager at the first of the three sites, 72 percent of orders by Regional staff physicians and 90 percent of orders by resident physicians were being placed directly using the Eclipsys system.
This documented success is the result of collaboration between physicians, nurses, allied health and other professionals from Calgary Regional facilities. These multi-disciplinary team members participated in the system design and implementation process, and built order sets based on clinician consensus to reduce variance across care delivery practices, and establishing standard procedures for excellence in care delivery. The high percentage of physicians already using the order sets in Sunrise Clinical Manager has enabled the Region to standardize its care delivery and accelerate achievement of Regional and Provincial quality improvement initiatives.

The Calgary Health Region and Eclipsys also engaged in extensive training to ensure that end users were comfortable with the solution. Over a period of 5 months, 12,000 users in the Region were trained on Sunrise Clinical Manager.
