CMP Technology Acquires Semiconductor Insights, Premier Provider of Technical and Intellectual Property Information to the Global Semiconductor Industry

Strategic Database Tool Strengthens CMP's Electronics Portfolio

MANHASSET, N.Y. and OTTAWA, Canada, July 27 -- CMP Technology, a targeted media and marketing solutions company serving the technology industry, today announced that it has acquired Semiconductor Insights (http://www.semiconductor.com/), the premier provider of technical and intellectual property (IP) information to the global semiconductor industry. The acquisition of Semiconductor Insights strengthens CMP's Electronics portfolio of services by providing customers the ability to identify, optimize and protect their technology assets through access to patent analyses and a vast library of detailed technical analyses of Integrated Circuits and electronic systems and technical market research.

An eighteen-year-old Canadian company with offices around the world, Semiconductor Insights has a blue-chip customer list. Semiconductor Insights performs in-depth technical investigation of integrated circuits and electronic systems to analyze their design, technological composition, component sourcing, build cost, manufacturing process and intellectual property content. The company's expertise spans communications, networking, wireless, electronics, smart card and semiconductor technologies, with its primary focus being on high volume devices, particularly consumer electronics.

Semiconductor Insights' IPinsights focuses on intellectual property services, while its TECHinsights helps companies to maximize their competitive advantage, providing detailed product and technology analysis, market trends and technical solutions. In addition, Semi Insights has a proprietary database of nearly 5,000 analytic reports based on primary data from 16,000 component and Integrated Circuits and adds new information monthly.

CMP and Semiconductor Insights have had a strong ongoing relationship for four years. Semiconductor Insights has been a significant provider of editorial material for the popular product "teardown" articles in EE Times and eetimes.com, as well as providing technical content for TechOnline, CMP's sites for technical training and deep product information.

The Semiconductor Insights executive team will be responsible for integrating assets into the Electronics Group's portfolio of face-to-face, online and print initiatives. The team will report to Paul Miller, President of CMP's Technology Innovators Group, and be based in Ottawa, Canada.

"The addition of Semiconductor Insights to our portfolio is a significant event for us. As we seek to partner with our customers further and further up the product development process, it is essential that we are able to give them insight into the latest design, process, and technology innovations to help ensure they can bring the right product to market, at the right time. Semiconductor Insights is just that resource. In addition, Semi Insights has tools and information to help technology companies evaluate, develop, and monetize their IP," Miller said. "This acquisition is further confirmation that CMP is charting a new course in providing engineers, technologists, business managers, and IP professionals the critical information they need to succeed and to provide our customers with the means to communicate with these creators of technology."

"I am very pleased about today's announcement," said Marg Smeaton, Semiconductor Insights board member and wife of the late Dr. Doug Smeaton, who was president and CEO from 1992 - 2007. "Doug was very passionate about his company and the semiconductor marketplace. He was confident that CMP is the right partner to take Semiconductor Insights to the next level and continue to build the company according to the strategic plans Doug had envisioned."
