Buffalo Business Celebrates Outstanding Safety Record

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Emedco, a direct marketer and manufacturer of safety and security products located in Buffalo N.Y., recently celebrated a full year without a single OSHA-recordable incident. This tremendous achievement has required a significant team effort from everyone at the facility over the past year.

To address the company's safety record in Buffalo, Pascal Deman, Vice President & General Manager of direct marketing, tasked Buffalo's Operations Management team with not only removing the facility from the worst safety performance facilities list, but making it the safest plant in the corporation.

Buffalo's safety committee led efforts to drive personal ownership of its Employee Health and Safety Program to all levels of staff throughout the facility. Management also led blitzes of manufacturing operations, touching all equipment and all work centers, looking for the most common past injury categories. From there, the team looked for ways to improve these hazards and avoid future incidents.

Thanks to the combined efforts of Buffalo's managers, supervisors, team leads and employees, the facility has not recorded a single OSHA-recordable incident in the last year.

"The tireless efforts of our employees in Buffalo to improve safety performance are exemplary," said Henry Jacobi, director of operations at Emedco. "Buffalo has not only recorded zero recordable incidents in the last year, but did so in the midst of numerous changes at the facility, including the integration of new business operations as well as numerous manufacturing and distribution layout changes."

A Team Effort

Many of the company's past and present safety committee members brought concerns to meetings and performed monthly safety inspections to identify opportunities for improvement. Buffalo's facilities and maintenance staff has played an important role in this process, correcting deficiencies found during inspections and maintaining a safe working environment on a daily basis.

Proactive Focus on Safety

This is only the beginning of the Buffalo facility's revitalized safety efforts. Going forward, the facility will continue to proactively use its accident reporting system to record all accidents and injuries, including near miss incidents. The team will continually identify areas of concern in the facility, assign action items to team members and ensure corrective measures are implemented and documented.

"This has been a tremendous effort over the last few years of all the employees in the Buffalo facility," said Deman. "There is zero compromise on safety in our workplace!"
