Press release date: January 7, 2007

LAS VEGAS, 2007 International CES, Jan. 7 / - Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ:BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that it will demonstrate a variety of new silicon, software and reference design platforms at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 8 through January 11. Broadcom's demonstrations converge digital video, voice and data to deliver a state-of-the-art multimedia experience for consumers at home, at work and on the go, and will provide a preview of upcoming digital products enabled by Broadcom® technology that will appear in retail stores in the coming months.

The following is a preview of select new Broadcom consumer technologies that will be featured in the company's demonstration suite at CES, Meeting Room #35778, South Hall 4 in the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC):

Digital Video Technology:

o Full high definition (HD) 1080p digital TV technology: Broadcom will be demonstrating the BCM3563, the industry's first single-chip HD digital TV solution manufactured in 65 nanometer process geometry that supports full 1080p display resolution. This new, highly integrated "television-on-a-chip" enables TV and other consumer equipment manufacturers to cost-effectively build TVs and displays with the industry's highest quality HD resolution. The new device is compatible with the National Television Systems Committee (NTSC) analog standard, the North American digital terrestrial or Advanced Television Committee (ATSC) digital standard, and the digital cable television standard. In addition, the new chip supports picture-in-picture (PIP) and picture-by-picture display modes.

o Digital television home connectivity: The company will be demonstrating the connectivity of digital televisions based on Broadcom solutions that offer consumers the ability to connect their televisions with other consumer electronic products. It will include a Broadcom BCM3560-based digital television design connecting to, and sharing photos from, a Bluetooth® mobile phone enabled by Broadcom silicon and an 802.11 color printer based on Broadcom technology to allow for the printing of those images. The demonstration shows how consumers can easily connect a wide variety of electronics devices -- all enabled by Broadcom technology - to accomplish simple but meaningful tasks in a home environment.

o High definition DVD technology: Broadcom will be demonstrating the industry's first complete system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution that combines both Blu-ray(TM) and HD DVD optical disc formats into a highly integrated, single-chip design. The new Broadcom SoC has an advanced feature set, coupled with a Universal Optical Disc software stack and reference platform that is compliant with both Blu-ray and HD DVD specifications, providing OEMs with a complete platform for future generation media players that support both disc formats, as well as other home entertainment and network applications.

o Client-server HD media streaming set-top box (STB) technology: Client-server reference platforms for DSL/IP networks will be exhibited supporting advanced functionality including the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), secure video processor (SVP) and personal video recorder (PVR) trick mode capabilities over Ethernet and 802.11n wireless media.

o Cable set-top technology: Broadcom will show its family of cable STB silicon and software reference designs representing industry specifications that support OCAP, multi-stream CableCard, downloadable conditional access (DCAS), DOCSIS® set-top Gateway (DSG), DOCSIS 3.0 downstream channel bonding, and advanced HDTV MPEG-4 Video and Dolby® Digital Plus (DDP) audio decoding capabilities in a client-server networked home DVR demonstration.

o Advanced satellite STB technology: Broadcom will be demonstrating both satellite and hybrid STB reference platforms using advanced modulation technology, DVB-S2. These platforms perform both SD and HD MPEG-2 and AVC decode, as well as demonstrate PVR and video-on-demand (VOD) capabilities with VCR "trick mode" effects on various video streams. These platforms showcase Broadcom's advanced encryption technology to ensure copy protection of recorded content. In addition, the demonstration highlights Broadcom's advanced 2D graphics engine that allows Internet browsers and electronic program guides to deliver studio-quality text and graphics on television monitors.

o Advanced communications technology: Broadcom will be demonstrating next generation communications technologies for the xDSL market, including multi-mode VDSL2/ADSL2+ central office and consumer premises solutions that support high definition video, VoIP and 802.11n wireless connectivity.

Wireless Networking Solutions:

o 802.11n - Next generation Wi-Fi® performance: With speeds that far surpass Fast Ethernet and the ability to deliver multiple streams of HD video content, 802.11n is poised to become the backbone of the digital home. Broadcom's Intensi-fi(TM) products, which comply with the draft 802.11n specification, power routers, broadband gateways and notebook computers from leading manufacturers and provide real world performance greater than 180 Mbps.

o Ultra-low power Wi-Fi for mobile products: The proliferation of content, and the need to share that content wirelessly, makes Wi-Fi a necessity for today's handheld games, media players and mobile phones. Broadcom's new ultra-low power 54g® (802.11g) products have a unique architecture that simplifies integration into consumer electronics designs, fulfilling the stringent requirements for embedding Wi-Fi.

o Easier, more secure Wi-Fi networking: Broadcom's SecureEasySetup(TM) software enables consumers to configure their Wi-Fi wireless networks and activate WPA(TM) security with the push of a button.

Consumer VoIP Solutions:

o Broadcom's line up of consumer VoIP solutions includes video phones, Wi-Fi phones, Ethernet IP phones and terminal adaptors (TAs). These devices address the specific needs of the consumer market for advanced functionality at consumer price points and will be featured in a variety of customer and service provider products.

o The unique benefits afforded by Wi-Fi network connectivity, including features such as Internet radio, hotspot connectivity and Skype(TM) network access, will be demonstrated on a number of handsets based on Broadcom's Wi-Fi phone chipset.

o Broadcom will demonstrate its video telephony solution with support for H.264, 2-way video conferencing and advanced algorithms for robust voice and video over Wi-Fi.

Mobile and Multimedia Solutions:

o Complete CellAirity(TM) mobile platform: Broadcom will be showcasing all of the components of its complete mobile handset platform including HSDPA and WCDMA cellular basebands, RF transceiver, power management, application processor, mobile Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mobile TV and mobile multimedia processor. In addition, Broadcom will be demonstrating the commercial deployment of its M-Stream technology, which delivers vastly superior voice quality in today's handsets and mobile carriers.

o Mobile multimedia and application processors: Broadcom's advanced mobile multimedia and application processors are built on the industry leading VideoCore® technology, providing extreme multi-media performance and very low power levels. VideoCore products are optimized for high volume markets including mobile phones, mobile TVs and portable audio/video/game devices, and deliver an unprecedented level of integration, multimedia performance and low power dissipation.

Bluetooth Technology:

o Broadcom will demonstrate the latest in advanced Bluetooth functionality, including Bluetooth 2.1 features such as simple pairing, the ability to stream audio to multiple headsets, and other key features for cutting edge mobile applications.

o Mobile devices are increasingly adding multiple wireless technologies. Broadcom will demonstrate its InConcert(TM) coexistence technology, which maximizes performance of its industry-leading Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radios, even when integrated into the same device.

o Other demonstrations will include the Broadcom BCM2048, which integrates both Bluetooth and FM radio functionality on a single low power chip, and new technologies designed for multiple Bluetooth audio applications.
