Broadcom Expands Energy Efficient Portfolio with New Switch Solutions for Home and Small Business

Reduces Power Consumption by up to 95%

News Highlights:

o Expands Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) portfolio to include home and small business switch applications.
o New devices deliver 70% power savings when network is active and 95% during down time.
o Delivers dramatic cost savings while reducing carbon footprint.

IRVINE, Calif.- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced the expansion of its EEE portfolio with three new switch solutions for home and small-to-medium-sized business (SMB) networking applications. Along with Broadcom® Intelligent Power Management (IPM) technology, the new EEE devices adapt to the physical conditions of the network, lowering power consumption by 70 percent or more when the network is active and up to 95 percent during down time.

Leading Provider of Green Solutions

Broadcom continues to drive innovation in enabling green networks with the industry's broadest portfolio of Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) devices that significantly reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions. It is estimated that over 150 million metric tons of CO2 are used to power IT equipment with a global price tag of approximately $16 billion per year(1). Broadcom's award-winning proprietary AutoGrEEEn(TM) could help reduce CO2 emissions in the U.S. alone by up to 2.85 million metric tons(2).

Ed Redmond, Senior Director of Connectivity, Processor & Security Solutions

"As energy costs continue to climb and environmental impact remains top of mind for many organizations, energy efficient networking can have a significant impact on the bottom line while also reducing carbon footprint. Broadcom continues to drive innovation in communication technology through its leadership and development of energy efficient solutions that increase overall performance of the network while significantly reducing power consumption."

Key Facts:

o Broadcom's new energy efficient SMB devices are the first to support the
IEEE 802.3az specification for EEE.

o Broadcom's intelligent power management (IPM) technology allows the new
devices to extend the 802.3az EEE capability to cover any legacy non-EEE
compliant devices.

o The adoption of the new IEEE 802.3az EEE standard will result in large
energy and economic savings likely exceeding $400 million per year, just
in the U.S.(2)

o New devices include:

o The BCM53125 highly integrated 7-port GbE multilayer switch for
desktop, wireless router and gateway applications.

o The BCM53128 highly integrated 9-port GbE switch for unmanaged
switches, routers and gateway applications.

o The BCM53324 series highly integrated 24-port GbE switch for
unmanaged and smart switch applications.

o All products are immediately available in volume production.

Broadcom will demonstrate its latest EEE switch solutions for home and SMB applications at the 2011 Computex conference and exposition in Taiwan May 31 - June 4. Visit www.broadcom.com to learn more.
