Enhances bandwidth availability for high-bandwidth mobile communication and improved signal coverage for the residential market

Campbell, Calif. - November 16, 2009 - Brilliant Telecommunications, Inc., a leading supplier of next-generation network synchronization equipment and solutions, announced a strategic partnership with Alcatel-Lucent to supply an accurate, end-to-end network synchronization solution for Alcatel-Lucent's UMTS Femto BSR product. This partnership includes Brilliant's femtocell synchronization technologies as well as a service agreement to support the increasing deployment of these technologies across Alcatel-Lucent's business units. The relationship will provide significant time-to-market benefits to Alcatel-Lucent's customers as femtocell adoption rates continue to grow.

Femtocells are reduced-footprint basestations that provide high-bandwidth mobile communication and improved signal coverage for the residential market. Like macro basestations, femtocells are also prone to radio interference issues resulting from poor frequency and phase synchronization between various macro and femto devices in the network. The lack of synchronization in the network ultimately results in slower handoffs, frequent dropped calls during handoffs, and poor voice quality. Brilliant's end-to-end timing solution for femtocells consists of Zurich Z-1000 timing servers delivering timing packets to Brilliant's FemtoTime timing client in the Femto BSR. Scalable to support very large deployments, the FemtoTime timing client provides superior synchronization for femtocells across ADSL and IP networks even under very harsh network conditions.

"We are pleased that Alcatel-Lucent has chosen Brilliant's end-to-end network synchronization solution for their Femto BSR product," said Dr. Charles Barry, president and CEO, Brilliant Telecommunications. "The femtocell market is highly cost-conscious and Brilliant is constantly striving to meet both the synchronization performance and the cost-targets set by the industry."
