The BIO Alliance Zone and Translational Research Forum to be featured at the global event for biotechnology
2013 BIO International Convention
WASHINGTON--Universities have historically been on the front lines of translating innovative research into novel medicines and technologies useful to patients. With that in mind, the 2013 BIO International Convention will look to highlight the role of academia in the advancement of the biotechnology field through the BIO Alliance Zone and the Translational Research Forum. Hosted by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), the Convention, celebrating its 20th anniversary, will take place April 22-25, 2013 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.

The BIO Alliance Pavilion: Academic Zone is dedicated to academic and research institutions and serves as a pavilion for academic and industry partnering meetings as well as provides a venue for highlighting the involvement of academia in the Convention and the industry as a whole. The Academic Zone will allow companies to discover new funding mechanisms, energize pipeline and drug development opportunities, and connect with innovative academic stakeholders.
A special program dedicated to exploring ways that the private sector, academia and the public sector, in both emerging and developed markets, can leverage existing mechanisms and pursue partnerships to help make innovative products available, The Translational Research Forum: Moving from Translational to Transformational, will survey best practices and outcomes from partnerships in transformational research and explore with the audience ways to leverage a greater return on public investment.
Sponsored by Northwestern, the University of Chicago, the University of Illinois and the University of Virginia, Innovation, the Forum will take place Monday, April 22nd, 1:30 – 6:30 p.m. in Building N426 C.
The opening address will be delivered by W. Mark Crowell, Executive Director, UVa Innovation, Associate Vice President, Research, University of Virginia, 2013 AUTM Bayh-Doyle Award Recipient.
