Becomes First U.S.-Based Provider of Rechargeable Lithium-ion Batteries to Attain "Nordic Ecolabel" Endorsement for Supporting Environmentally Sustainable Products

24th International Battery Seminar & Exhibit

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. & FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.-Boston-Power, Inc.(TM), an emerging provider of portable power solutions, today underscored its environmental responsibility by announcing that its Sonata notebook computer product family is the first rechargeable Lithium-ion battery to attain "Nordic Ecolabel" certification.

Created in 1989 by the Nordic Council of Ministers (comprising Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Denmark and Finland), and part of the Global Ecolabel Network, the endorsement signifies a company's environmentally sustainable products. Representatives from Nordic Ecolabel are exhibiting jointly with Boston-Power at the 24th International Battery Seminar & Exhibit, beginning today in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

The announcement underscores the trend of consumer and business conscientiousness regarding the environmental implications of products. Nordic Ecolabel acknowledges companies like Boston-Power that are conscientious regarding the environmental impact of the production, usage and disposal of their products, providing guidance to consumers who prefer environmentally responsible products.

"Boston-Power takes seriously its environmental responsibility," said Boston-Power Founder and CEO Dr. Christina Lampe-Onnerud. "As a young company innovating a new approach to Lithium-ion batteries and a better way to build them, environmental conscientiousness has guided our decisions from day one. We believe we've shown that a battery provider can be sensitive to environmental issues while delivering products with unmatched performance, quality and cost-efficiency. We greatly respect the work of Nordic Ecolabel and are proud to accept this endorsement."

"Nordic Ecolabel applauds Boston-Power's awareness of the importance of environmentally sustainable products, production and disposal," said Swedish Ecolabel CEO Ragnar Unge. "Their endorsement is a well-deserved reflection of their ability to combine technical knowledge with environmental quality standards. Their effort further proves that collaboration between the U.S. and Europe can result in important environmental standards as well as world-class products."

The European Union Parliament estimates that 160,000 tons of portable batteries enter the market each year. If carelessly thrown out to end up in incinerators or landfills - as 45 percent of all batteries were in 2002 - rather than collected and recycled, these batteries can have serious, detrimental environmental impacts.

Boston-Power's Sonata product family comprises the only batteries designed to match the typical three-year lifespan of notebook computers while delivering like-new performance throughout this timeframe. As a result, fewer batteries need to be recycled. Boston-Power further contributes to environmental responsibility by:

o Promoting a high-quality, high-reliability rechargeable battery system

o Choosing environmentally friendly materials in both the development and manufacturing of its batteries and their packaging

o Practicing best-in-class energy efficiency at its manufacturing facilities

o Disposing of manufacturing "fall-out" - the by-product of the manufacturing process - in an environmentally friendly manner

Boston-Power's Sonata product line provides on-the-go notebook computer users with the industry's fastest recharge time - recharging to 80 percent capacity in just 30 minutes. A drop-in battery that can be used in existing notebook computers, Sonata features enhancements in both performance and safety. Its proprietary safety features include slower chemical kinetics, novel current interrupt devices, new thermal fuses, unique pressure relief vents and safer pack configuration.
