Global growth expected to continue
· Sights set on peak orders in 2012
· Internationalization and diversification ensure stable growth
· Acquisitions significantly expand portfolio

Stuttgart/Frankfurt am Main - Growth at Bosch Packaging Technology continues at an above-average rate for the market. The company expects order books to peak at over 900 million euros in 2012. This will be accompanied by a twelve percent increase in annual sales. "All of the available economic data indicates continued growth on a global scale," reported Friedbert Klefenz, President of Bosch Packaging Technology, speaking at Achema in Frankfurt, the industry's leading exhibition for process technology (booths C70 and C72, hall 3.1). "We expect to see very dynamic developments in Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Latin America and Africa - especially in generics, which will significantly gain importance compared to conventional brand-name drugs."

The international position of Bosch Packaging Technology which currently generates about 90 percent of its sales outside of Germany, ensures increasing independence from regional economic fluctuations. At the same time, diversification in the pharmaceutical sector supports consistent expansion of the Bosch portfolio along the entire value chain. With the takeover of Eisai Co., Ltd. (now Eisai Machinery, Tokyo, Japan) in April 2012 and the acquisitions of Hüttlin GmbH (Schopfheim, Germany) and Manesty (now Bosch Packaging Technology Ltd., Knowsley, United Kingdom) in summer 2011, Bosch Packaging Technology further expanded its inspection and process technology portfolio.

New products across the entire value chain at the trade show Bosch Packaging Technology offers customers a chance to conserve resources by conducting lab experiments using Bosch machinery. The subsequent results can be reliably carried over to in-house production systems. Two complete modular systems for laboratory use are on display at Achema. Solidlab 1 and 2 are the results of a joint development by process and technology specialists at Hüttlin and Manesty. One base assembly accommodates the processing modules used for mixing, granulating and coating. This significantly lowers investment costs and reduces space requirements. In Frankfurt Bosch is presenting a complete process chain with different systems for the production of solid pharmaceuticals.

Achema visitors can also look forward to a complete overview of the Bosch portfolio of manual, semiautomatic and fully automatic inspection machines by Eisai Machinery. More than 1,000 of the fully automatic models are currently in operation around the world. This growth in process analytic technology enhances the systems in the existing Bosch portfolio. Developments range from the new, compact KKX 3900 inspection unit based on soft x-ray technology, to a new Track & Trace solution for mass serialization. These technologies maximize process reliability and provide effective protection against tampering and counterfeiting of pharmaceutical products.

Long-term cooperation with Sartorius Stedim Biotech
Working in the context of a long-term cooperation, Bosch Packaging Technology is further developing the personalized medicine segment - drugs that are tailored to small, clearly profiled groups. This means smaller batch sizes and more frequent system changeovers while complying with comprehensive hygiene aspects. This is where the new PreVAS product line jointly developed by Bosch Packaging Technology and Sartorius Stedim Biotech comes into play. PreVAS stands for Pre-Validated, Pre-Assembled, Pre-Sterilized disposable solutions for aseptic filling. The completely pre-validated disposable filling system for sterile liquid pharmaceuticals significantly reduces time-to-market and allows unprecedented production flexibility.

100th isolator sold demonstrates extensive system expertise
The 30th Achema exhibition is where Bosch Packaging Technology is showcasing an array of new products, including the Fast Air Lock ISS 1000 designed for fast, contamination-free transfer of pharmaceutical equipment into and out of isolators. The company celebrates the sale of the 100th unit in Frankfurt, confirming many years of experience and expertise in this segment. For more than 20 years, Bosch Packaging Technology has been developing isolators for use in the pharmaceutical industry. Compared to conventional clean-room production systems, isolators ensure higher product quality, lower operating costs and reliable execution of long production cycles. Isolator systems are available for all types of machines used for filling ampoules, vials, cartridges and prefilled syringes.

Expanded service portfolio
The many years of development expertise at Bosch Packaging Technology go hand in hand with long-term customer support throughout the entire life cycle of their production systems. This includes support when it comes to a spare parts inventory (Stock Optimization) and the modernization of existing systems. It also includes Mavus, a mobile conferencing system presented in Frankfurt. Mavus consists of a headset with integrated camera, display, earphones and microphone. The corresponding rechargeable battery and electronics required for wireless data transmission are conveniently and safely integrated into a vest. Mavus enables a customer's technician on-site to make direct audio-visual contact with Bosch specialists. Within minutes, the technician can handle troubleshooting as a "guided expert" backed by Bosch technical knowledge.
