Bookham Appointment Strengthens High Power Laser Diode Business In Europe

Zurich, Switzerland, - May 10, 2007 - Bookham, Inc. (Nasdaq: BKHM), a leading provider of optical components, modules and subsystems, announced today the appointment of Pierre Champert as Technical Sales Manager of its high power laser diode business unit. Dr. Champert's appointment will advance business growth across Europe, with a particular focus on France, and will further strengthen support and service to customers in this region.

Originally developed for use in telecommunications networks, Bookham has directed significant effort into adapting and diversifying its high power laser diodes to a number of markets and applications, including industrial, medical, display, analytical, printing, aerospace and defense.

Before joining Bookham, Dr. Champert contributed to Keopsys SA's business development in Europe. He holds a degree in Physics from the University of Paris-Orsay and a PhD in Physics from Imperial College London.
