Press release date: February 25, 2009

The Heraeus Body Moulding Oven is a custom system for pre-heating rubber mouldings prior to their being fixed to the vehicle. Mouldings are stored "cold" in racks by the side of the oven and can be heated individually or in sets to 35- 45°C in just 6 to 8 seconds. Designed to meet specific customer needs, they have already been successfully installed in many leading vehicle manufacturing plants throughout the world.

Energy efficient
Heraeus body moulding ovens use short wave heaters which come up to temperature immediately. Not only are they fast, typically taking only 6-8 seconds to preheat a moulding, they are energy efficient. Based on an average throughput of 60 vehicles per hour, the oven will only be operational for 6 minutes.

Improved finished quality
Conventional ovens often allow mouldings to be left for long periods, causing those at the bottom of the stack to deform. Because they are also slower, taking up to 30 minutes to bring the strips to the required temperature, there are occasions when the mouldings are applied too "cold". This is believed to be a major cause of their subsequently becoming detached.

The Heraeus method, where mouldings are stored in racks by the side of the oven and then preheated one or two sets at a time, eliminates both these problems and the scratches and marks that occur when mouldings are pulled from the middle of a stack.

Easy and safe to use
Each rack is tagged with the relevant part number to avoid confusion and as a vehicle comes down the production line, the operator identifies the required type and places it onto the drawer of the oven. When he is ready to apply the moulding, he closes the drawer and presses the start button. A few seconds later the heating cycle is complete and a light illuminates.

Inductive proximity switches fitted to each drawer sense its position and ensure that heaters will not operate unless the drawer is closed. No convective heat is given out to the immediate surroundings.

Consistency
Because the heating cycle is set during commissioning, mouldings are heated to the same temperature time after time.

Designed to meet specific customer needs
Just as each production line is different, the Heraeus team will design a body moulding heating system specifically to meet individual needs. At an initial site inspection, we will take into consideration line speed, pre- heating temperature requirements and the number and size of mouldings that require pre-heating.

Customers can rely on the highest quality of service from design and production right through to installation, commissioning and post-sales support.

Typical technical specification
