ITT's Dry Circuit Pressure Contact Z Series Delivers Green Solution for Smart Phones, Hand-held Devices
SANTA ANA, CA - ITT Interconnect Solutions, a leading global manufacturer and supplier of connectors, interconnects and cable assemblies, has developed a new Universal Contact Z (UCZ) for the growing hand-held device market, including smart phones, GPS systems, and medical monitoring devices. The UCZ Series was designed in response to a customer request for beryllium-free contacts with high electric performance. The UCZ Series provides a small-form factor, offering a 25% reduction in length over industry-standard contacts, freeing up significant board space.
ITT ICS design engineers selected a titanium copper alloy for the new UCZ Series in place of industry-standard beryllium copper. The alloy was tested for optimum electrical and mechanical performance. Once positive results were proven, the thickness and required radii were determined in order to achieve high hertz forces, maximum deflection and low contact resistance. Further advantages of the new UCZ Series contacts are improved RF performance for antenna applications and increased deflection range with a smaller footprint.

The new Universal Contact Z Series is available in six different free heights. Heights available beginning in April 2012 are 1.8mm, 2.5mm and 3.5mm. Further applications for UCZ Series beryllium-free contacts are military communications devices, digital lifestyle hand helds, and computing equipment.
