Benicia Branch Wins NPRA Safety Award

The ThyssenKrupp Safway Benicia branch, one of 90 locations offering superior scaffold products and services, was recently awarded the National Petroleum Refiners Association (NPRA) Safety Award. And, for the second year in a row, the branch has also won the Contractor Safety Award from the Benicia Refinery.

"This is an outstanding achievement for the Benicia branch and ThyssenKrupp Safway," said Gary Duncan, Western Regional Manager. "The efforts of branch personnel and our customers demonstrate our persistent commitment to the highest safety standards in the industry."

NPRA commended the Benicia branch with the 2007 Merit Award, an honor bestowed to members that have achieved a recordable incident rate of 1.0 or less with no workplace-related fatalities. The Benicia crew at the Valero Refinery achieved a recordable incident rate of zero after nearly 150,000 hours worked.

"Each job takes a concerted effort on the part of many individuals to make sure work gets done correctly," said Benicia Branch Manager Sully Cittadino. "All these pieces have contributed effectively to accomplish our goal of keeping the customer happy and our workers safe."

The NPRA awards program is part of a widespread safety initiative developed by NPRA's Safety and Health Committee to encourage accident prevention in the petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing industries.
