Press release date: October 20, 2010

Schellsburg, PA - Bedford Rural Electric Cooperative ("Bedford REC") installed a 40' Class 4 Powertrusion FRP pole and deadend cross arm at camp site 188, Shawnee State Park. Creative Pultrusions, Inc. ("Creative") manufactured both the pole and arm at its Alum Bank, Pennsylvania facility.

FRP utility poles and cross arms are lightweight, offering a quick installation in any environment. This installation, set up by Troy Mock with REC and Dustin Troutman with Creative, took approximately four hours. "We want to get FRP poles and cross arms in front of all electric cooperatives, and starting local is the best place", stated DustinTroutman. "Bedford REC saw first hand just how easy the installation, of FRP utility products, is so they can communicate that with the other cooperatives."

"Not only do these seem to be great products, but they are very aesthetically pleasing", said Brooks Shoemaker, Bedford REC's General Manager. "Our linemen were pleasantly surprised at the pole's weight, less than half of a wood pole. They were also impressed with how quickly the hardware and cross arm could be attached to the pole. The cross arm installation, in particular, was a big time-saver."

The FRP pole and cross arm were used to replace a wooden pole and cross arm that were installed in the 1950's. The FRP products do not require treatment with toxic chemicals for preserving them, important in a State Park, where children frequently come in contact with them. Unlike treated wood poles, the pultruded Powertrusion pole will not leach any dangerous chemicals into the watershed.

Creative Pultrusions is a world-class pultruder that utilizes the most advanced manufacturing processes to provide high-end profiles. Originally founded in 1973, CPI was acquired by Hill & Smith Holdings PLC (HS) in September 2008. A global leader in the design, manufacture and supply of infrastructure products, galvanizing services and building and construction products, HS has sales of over $700 million. Headquartered in the UK and quoted on the London Stock Exchange, HS employs some 3,300 staff across 54 sites, principally in the UK, France, USA, Thailand and China.
