Deploys PGP Whole Disk Encryption and PGP Universal Server to Protect Student and University Data

PALO ALTO, Calif., July 24 / / -- PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data protection, today announced that Baylor University has implemented the PGP(R) Encryption Platform to safeguard sensitive information across its diverse campus. The university has enhanced its security framework by deploying PGP(R) Whole Disk Encryption to protect data stored on its desktop and laptop computers along with PGP Universal(TM) Server for centralized management of its encryption applications.

Chartered in 1845, Baylor University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the state of Texas. In deploying PGP(R) encryption technology, Baylor takes a major step toward avoiding the security breaches that have recently plagued a number of universities. According to the Identity Theft Resource Center -- a highly respected nonprofit organization, almost 30 percent of all reported security breaches in 2006 involved educational institutions.

"We wanted software that had been tested in the real world, would lower our operational costs, and was easy to use so our students and faculty wouldn't rebel," said Jon Allen, information security officer for Baylor University. "We tested PGP Whole Disk Encryption extensively in our environment and threw every scenario we could think of at the software. PGP encryption technology delivers a solid security platform, so we're very pleased with the results."

PGP Universal Server, the foundation of the PGP Encryption Platform, provides unified, Web-based administration for all PGP Encryption Platform -- enabled applications, users, policies, provisioning, logging, and reporting through a single management console. Its ability to integrate with Baylor's existing infrastructure was a key criterion for Baylor's IT team. PGP Whole Disk Encryption met Baylor's critical requirements for laptop data protection, including support for both Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS X operating systems, strong passphrase support and recovery, ease of installation, and transparency to users.

Baylor values its relationship with PGP Corporation. Allen concludes, "PGP Corporation continues to demonstrate an appreciation for the challenges we face in the higher-education marketplace. Now, if someone loses a laptop, we don't have to be concerned about sensitive information being exposed and can avoid unnecessary costs and headaches for us, our students, and our faculty. We've delighted to have found both a strong, long-term security solution and a technology partner in PGP Corporation."

About PGP Whole Disk Encryption

PGP Whole Disk Encryption protects intellectual property, customer data, and brand equity with transparent, full disk encryption that locks down a drive without changing user behavior or workflow. The application secures data from multiple threats with a single, centrally managed client, making theft or loss of a system or removable media far less damaging to a user or business. It also provides safe, single sign-on to Microsoft Windows through password synchronization, and is available for Mac OS X non-boot drives, enabling removable media to be encrypted and shared between users on different operating systems.

About the PGP Encryption Platform

The PGP Encryption Platform lowers operational costs and accelerates application deployment through a single management console. The platform provides a strategic enterprise encryption framework for shared user management, policy, and provisioning automated across multiple, integrated encryption applications. The platform also integrates with third-party enterprise solutions, including directory services and PKIs as well as email hygiene and outbound content compliance solutions.
