International Standards Organization Joins BITS Shared Assessments Program Working Group as an Assessment Firm member.
RESTON, Va., June 6 -- BSI announced today that they have joined the Financial Institution Shared Assessment Program Working Group as an Assessment Firm member.
The Financial Institution Shared Assessments Program was created by BITS, an industry consortium whose members represent 100 of the largest financial institutions in the U.S. The goal of the program is to assist financial institutions in streamlining the service provider security assessment process while raising the bar on security in the financial services industry. The Shared Assessments Program is managed by strategic consulting company, The Santa Fe Group.
BSI Management Systems is the North and South American entity of BSI, the world's leading international standards testing and certification organization. Founded in 1901, BSI has facilitated and published many of the first commercial management system standards, including Information Security and IT Service Management, now known as ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 management systems.
"BSI's experience in standards development and certification processes will be extremely valuable as we continue to implement and further refine the Shared Assessments Program," said Leigh Williams, President of BITS. "Their international expertise is especially critical as an increasing number of non-US and global enterprises are adopting Shared Assessments."
As a working group member, BSI Management Systems will participate in the Shared Assessments Program's Working Group and Technical Development Committees, proposing new initiatives and participating in member meetings along with providing AUP (Agreed Upon Procedures) audit services.
"At BSI Management Systems, we are committed to helping organizations improve information and data security by managing their confidential corporate and customer information through a systematic approach that encompasses people, processes and IT systems," said Gary Pearsons, President of BSI Management Systems America. "Information is the lifeblood of organizations and in today's competitive business environment, it is increasingly at risk. We look forward to working with BITS and its members to continue to improve security in the financial industry through education, awareness and harmonization of the shared assessments program with current international standards around the world."
