BSA Distributor Survey Shows Solid Gains



Glen Ellyn, IL-The Bearing Specialists Association (BSA) Annual Distributor Survey revealed aggregate sales volume increased 14.7% in 2011 over the 2010 volume.

According to Bill Stevens, President and CEO, Motion Industries, who reported for BSA, firms responding to the BSA Distributor Survey represented 90% of the value of bearings sold through BSA members. Additional survey results revealed that in 2011 the aggregate number of employees increased 3.5%. In 2010, the number of employees rose 1.8%.

Stevens presented the survey findings at the 2012 BSA Annual Convention April 29-May 1 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa in Bonita Springs, Florida. Complete survey reports are sent to all participants. The BSA Distributor Survey is facilitated by the Profit Planning Group to assure complete confidentiality.

In another industry update, Pete Eich, President of NTN Bearing Corporation of America and the chairman of ABMA, presented the industry report of the American Bearing Manufacturers Association (ABMA). Per his report, in 2009 the Fredonia Group estimated the world bearing market to be $50.5 billion. By 2011, some estimates put the market as high as $60 billion. This number includes both rolling bearings and plain bearings. The majority of usage is in the Asia/Pacific Region at 50%, followed by Europe at 26% and North America with 17%.

Both reports are highlights of every BSA Annual Convention. The 2013 event is planned for May 5 - 7 at the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort and Spa on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. BSA is the "must belong to organization for authorized bearing distributors." An international service and educational organization of distributors representing a total of almost 100 companies distributing factory-warranted, anti-friction bearings and invited manufacturers of bearings and related products, the association's mission says, "BSA is the forum to enhance networking and knowledge sharing and promote the sale of bearings through authorized distributors."
