BMG160 Digital Triaxial Gyroscope for Smartphone and Gaming Applications

Sensor for sophisticated mobile applications
  • The world's smallest triaxial gyroscope
  • High functionality in a 3 x 3 mm package
  • Comprehensive sensor concepts and associated software from a single source

With its BMG160, Bosch Sensortec has launched the world's smallest triaxial gyroscope. Thanks to its space-saving footprint of only 3 x 3 x 0.95 mm, low power consumption and low noise, the BMG160 triaxial gyoscope meets even the extreme requirements of the consumer electronics industry. Engineers designed the BMG160 specifically for applications in smartphones, gaming, and other mobile devices. Its very compact design underscores Bosch Sensortec's leading position in the MEMS sensor market for consumer electronics and sets a new standard.

All technologies from a single source
The triaxial gyroscope completes Bosch Sensortec's product line for the consumer electronics industry. The Bosch portfolio also comprises acceleration and pressure sensors as well as electronic compass solutions. Thanks to the sophisticated fusion of sensor data from existing acceleration sensors, eCompass products, and gyroscope, direction and movement in three-dimensional space can be precisely recognized. Sensor data fusion is indispensable for future navigation and gaming applications in smartphones and tablet PCs. Bosch Sensortec develops and supplies software modules with six or nine Degrees of Freedom (DoF).

Bosch Sensortec's newly expanded and perfectly harmonized product line is an industry first: all of the currently relevant sensors and associated software for the latest generation of smartphones are now available from a single source.

Bosch Sensortec not only offers a complete portfolio of sensors, it also holds all patents associated to this technology. Moreover, the company has the manufacturing expertise and capacity for the large-scale series production of complex sensors. In the future, these will be decisive factors for consumer device manufacturers. Their competitiveness in a market characterized by ever faster product cycles will depend highly on reliable supply and delivery.

Bosch Sensortec GmbH is a fully owned subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH. It develops and markets micro-mechanical sensors for consumer electronics, mobile phones, safety systems, industrial technology and logistics. The product portfolio includes triaxial geomagnetic and acceleration sensors, triaxial gyroscopes, barometric pressure sensors and a comprehensive software portfolio for various applications. Since its foundation in 2005 Bosch Sensortec emerged as the technology leader in the addressed markets. The Bosch Group has been the global market leader for MEMS sensors since 1998 and has to date sold more than 2 billion MEMS sensors..
