WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) today announces the opening of media registration for the 2010 BIO International Convention. Hosted by BIO, the global event for biotechnology will take place May 3-6, 2010, in Chicago, Ill at McCormick Place.

"We're excited to head back to Chicago for the 2010 BIO International Convention," said BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood. "We had a very successful meeting there in 2006, and look forward to our return to the Midwest this spring."

Illinois is home to more than 440 corporate R&D facilities and more than 200 academic, government, and nonprofit research institutions. The state delivers a broad range of products and services, including medicines, medical devices, nutritional products, food and agricultural applications, alternative fuels, industrials, and environmental solutions.

Presentations and breakout sessions at the 2010 BIO International Convention will focus on research and development, partnership opportunities, and new business models required to meet global health challenges.

The 2010 BIO International Convention is expected to draw between 15,000 and 17,000 industry leaders from 48 states and 60 countries. This year, the Convention program will feature more than 125 sessions in 17 tracks. New tracks for 2010 include Delivery and Manufacturing of Biologics, Global Drug Development and Marketing, Innovations in Vaccines, and MarketPlace Watch.

In 2009, the convention attracted more than 14,000 attendees and exhibitors with approximately one-third from countries outside the U.S. The Georgia event also hosted numerous domestic and international public officials including 8 US governors.

The BIO International Convention was named 2008 Top Association Show, and in 2009 was included on Tradeshow Week's Fastest 50 list for the third consecutive year.
