BASF Names New Director Technical Development Group

Dr. Christian Wulff leads North American Technology Platform

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, April 13, 2009 - BASF Corporation announced that Dr.
Christian Wulff will assume responsibility as Director, Technical Development Group, Care Chemicals and Formulators, in North America. He will be based in Florham Park, New Jersey, and report to Simon Medley, Group Vice President, Care Chemicals and Formulators.

The Technical Development Group will support the individual business activities of Detergents and Formulators, Hair Care and Sun Care, while seeking to leverage innovation synergies across the businesses. Dr. Wulff will work closely with the central R&D platform, the global technical community, industry innovators and industry marketing teams.

This move will further strengthen the innovation process and network within Care Chemicals. In an effort to be more customer-facing, Care Chemicals has combined four separate groups to create synergies between the knowledge bases of marketing, sales and research and development. Since many of the chemistries have common performance traits, BASF's customers will be better served.

By utilizing joint technology and innovation platforms, BASF can allow a free flow of ideas that will lead to new innovative solutions for customers. Examples might be polymers or surfactants for skin and oral care, detergents, cleaners, coatings, textile and leather auxiliaries.

Christian joins the North American team from his position as Group Leader, Business Management Waxes & Wax Emulsions, Care Chemicals and Formulators in Europe. He was previously Head of Strategic Controlling, and worked in Development Surfactants for Technical Applications and the central research group for Specialty and Performance Chemicals. Christian earned his PhD in Chemistry from the Georg-August University, Goettingen, Germany.
