BASF Introduces Web Site for Pavement Preservation Solutions in North America

Link provides information for customers, government and public agencies

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, March 15, 2010 - BASF has launched a new Web site, www.basf.com/asphalt, to promote the benefits of pavement preservation applications for road maintenance.

"Pavement preservation - based on liquid asphalt binder modification - is an effective and eco-efficient way to protect engineered road pavements and extend their service life," said Jim Andrews, Commercial Marketing Manager-Construction, Dispersions & Pigments for BASF in North America.

"Applications such as chip sealing, micro-surfacing and thin lift asphalt maintenance overlays help protect road surfaces, promote better driving conditions, and minimize surface deterioration and the potential for structural failure."

One of the keys to these nonstructural maintenance applications is the use of durable materials that speed up construction. These benefits can be achieved using styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) latex polymer modification, such as BASF's BUTONAL® SBR polymers.

BUTONAL SBR latex polymers can be used to enhance aggregate retention, prevent drain-down, improve binder performance at high and low temperature extremes, and prevent asphalt pavement oxidation in liquid asphalt modification.

The Web site provides information for manufacturers and distributors of asphalt products, engineers, contractors, and government and public agencies responsible for road maintenance in North America.

"In many states, government and public agencies mandate the use of materials that combine cost, performance end ecological benefits," said Andrews. "BUTONAL SBR latex polymer dispersions have been helping engineers and the public transportation community improve the performance of pavement surface treatments and asphalt mix maintenance overlays for more than 25 years."

In addition, the BASF Charlotte Technical Center (CTC) provides product and system research and development and marketing support. BASF is the only high solids latex manufacturer in the United States that is active in research and product development in the areas of asphalt emulsion and hot mix paving.
