Axion Power and MultiLink will Jointly Present Axion's PbC Technology at the SCTE in Atlanta October 21-24

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Axion Power International, Inc., (OTCQB: AXPW), the developer of advanced lead-carbon PbC® batteries and energy storage systems, today announced it will display its PbC battery in L-5 format, as well as some of the battery's negative electrode components, as part of a dual presentation with MultiLink, an Elyria OH-based privately-held (www.gomultilink.com), engineering and product development manufacturer whose products include  telecommunications network components. The companies continue to explore ways of working together to service the multibillion dollar communications industry.

Axion Power Chairman and CEO Thomas Granville said, "We feel our PbC battery can play in various segments of the telecommunications market, especially in backing up the cable systems and conditioning transmission power in areas where there are frequent momentary brown outs. Our battery's long cycle life and superior partial state of charge advantages, together with its low module state of charge (voltage) variation in string, and in individual battery applications, provide PbC batteries with significant advantages over other batteries. And this doesn't even factor in the PbC operation advantage at temperature extremes. Less frequent battery replacements, and fewer required maintenance visits, further strengthen the argument for utilizing PbC batteries in substantial segments of the telecommunications market."

About MultiLink

MultiLink is an engineering and product development based manufacturer of telecommunications network components, servicing the traditional CATV MSO's (Cable Television Multiple System Operators), CLEC's (Competitive Local Exchange Carriers), RBOC's (Regional Bell Operating Companies), Independent Telco's, Regulated Utilities, and LAN (Local Area Network) providers and end users. The core business was developed in the United States and remains there, while an aggressive global marketing plan has been developed and put into place to keep pace with the ever-expanding marketplace.

The Company's principal business is to develop, produce, and refine products only of the highest quality, exceptional functionality, and application based solutions that apply in an ever-changing technological marketplace. The Company has continually upgraded engineering and manufacturing processes to increase productivity and overall profitability and meet the customer's expectations and requirements.

The Company is currently supplying existing products to the fifty largest CATV MSO's with products that have evolved over the last fifteen years. Many of these products are being marketed in their original form to satisfy ongoing needs, while other products have been revised and retooled to adapt to new technology applications. New product development has been focused on fiber optic based product solutions as the industry deploys fiber optic cable and attachments throughout its networks. The Company's presence in the fiber optic product solution arena has allowed the Company to become an end-to-end bundled solution communications product supplier and integrator rather than a component manufacturer provider.

About Axion Power International, Inc.

Axion has developed and patented a next generation energy storage device that won the prestigious Frost Sullivan Technology Award for North America in the field of lead-acid batteries. According to Frost & Sullivan, Axion's new PbC® batteries have "the potential to revitalize the lead-acid battery industry by breathing new life into an established technology that has not been well suited to the requirements of important new applications like hybrid electric vehicles and renewable power."

Axion Power International, Inc. is the industry leader in the field of lead carbon energy storage technologies. Axion believes its new PbC battery technology is the only class of advanced battery that can be assembled on existing lead-acid battery production lines throughout the world utilizing Axion's proprietary activated carbon electrodes. Axion's future goal, after filling their plant's lead-carbon battery production capacity, is to become the leading supplier of carbon electrode assemblies for the global lead-acid battery industry.
