Axiom Analytical, Inc. Announces an Updated Monograph on Remote Near-IR Diffuse Reflectance Analysis

TUSTIN, Calif. - Axiom Analytical, Inc. has announced the availability of an expanded and updated monograph (Technical Note AN-916) entitled "Signal Level Considerations for Remote Diffuse Reflectance Analysis". The updated monograph provides a theoretical framework for the design of near-IR and UV-Visible systems employing fiber-optic probes for remote chemical process monitoring. It reviews the basic theory of the diffuse reflectance phenomenon and radiation transfer and includes a discussion of the important concept of optical throughput - a largely misunderstood concept which greatly simplifies the estimate of the available signal level for practical optical system designs. The result is a thorough basis for the design of systems for on-line chemical process analysis based on diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and the expanded use of such systems in process analytical technology (PAT).

Diffuse reflectance near-IR (NIR) spectroscopy is widely used in the pharmaceutical blending and drying applications as well as in the analysis of agricultural products - applications in which the analyzer is often located at the sampling point. The use of single optical fibers or small fiber-optic bundles enables this analytical technique to be applied in additional applications in which the instrument must be remote from the measurement point due to hazards or environmental conditions. The Axiom monograph provides a simplified approach to estimating analytical system performance in such cases, when the available signal is limited by the throughput of the available optical fibers.

About Axiom Analytical, Inc
Axiom Analytical, Inc. was founded in 1988 by Dr. Mike Doyle and Norm Jennings, pioneers in the field of process FTIR spectroscopy. The Company's mission is to develop and market the robust sampling equipment, software, and integrated systems required to fully realize the potential of vibrational spectroscopy for solving economically significant problems both in laboratory analysis and manufacturing processes. The Company's products are employed in diverse industries ranging from basic chemicals to pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and polymer processing. In short, the Company's products are found wherever process analytical technology (PAT) is being applied. Its hardware products include ATR probes, transmission probes, diffuse reflectance probes, Raman probes, flow cells for gas and liquid analysis, and fiber-optic multiplexers. These cover the full range of molecular analysis including mid-IR, near-IR, UV-visible, and Raman spectroscopy.
