Atmel Studio 6.2 Simplifies MCU Development with Advanced Debugging Functionality

- Integrates Percepio Trace(TM) Technology to Provide Precise Visualization of Debug Accelerating Design Cycles in a Seamless, Easy-to-Use Environment

- Introduces Atmel-ICE, programming and debugging probe for Atmel-ARM and AVR based MCUs and New Xplained Mini Board to Bring More Flexibility and Faster Design Times for Cost-optimized Solutions

- Showcases Beta Version of Studio 6.2 at Embedded World

SAN JOSE, Calif., -- Atmel Corporation (NASDAQ: ATML), a global leader in microcontroller (MCU) and touch solutions, today announced Studio 6.2, the latest version of its popular integrated development environment (IDE) that supports Atmel ARM(®) Cortex(®)-M processor-based and Atmel 8-/32-bit AVR(®)-based MCUs. Atmel is also introducing its latest Xplained Mini development kit, an easy-to-use development board with extensive examples and flexibility to accelerate a designer's project for cost-optimized designs.

Studio 6.2 supports the new Atmel-ICE probe that provides advanced programming and debugs connectivity for Atmel ARM- and AVR-based MCUs including the ability to capture data trace information, providing a more integrated, easy-to-use solution for embedded designers. The advanced features of Atmel-ICE allow engineers and designers to have all the tools required to develop and debug Atmel applications seamlessly in a single, integrated environment.

Atmel's Studio 6.2 integrates Percepio Trace(TM) to provide unprecedented insight into the run-time of embedded software with leading-edge trace visualization. Percepio Trace gives a new level of understanding to software developers, allowing for better designs, faster troubleshooting and higher performance to accelerate a designer's time to market. Percepio Trace for Atmel Studio features control-flow trace (tasks and interrupts), custom data plots, application debug output, statistical code profiling, support for viewing MCU event counters and real-time operating system (RTOS) awareness.

Atmel Studio 6.2 also adds data breakpoints and live watch. Studio 6.2 is free to download. These comprehensive features provide all the right tools at a designer's finger tips.

"With time-to-market pressures constantly increasing in today's competitive market, advanced visualization support is a necessity," said Dr. Johan Kraft, CEO, Percepio AB. "The integration of our Percepio Trace allows Atmel MCU designers to produce higher quality software in a shorter time and at a lower price point. We are excited to partner with Atmel in their latest Studio 6.2 and look forward to enabling more designers to bring their prototypes quickly to market."

"With the increased complexity in today's embedded designs, developers are differentiating their products through software and advanced peripherals," said Steve Pancoast, Vice President of Software and Tools, Atmel Corporation. "With Atmel's latest Studio 6.2 version, we combine all the tools in a seamless, simple-to-use platform. As a leading provider of MCUs, we are committed to bringing an extensive and sophisticated eco-system to our software developers to ensure they have all the right tools to differentiate their products in this highly competitive market."

More Information on Xplained Development Mini Board

Atmel's Xplained Mini Board adds to its extensive line-up of Xplained boards. The new development board provides a cost-optimized price-point to quickly get a designer's prototype started. The Xplained Mini board supports low pin-count devices, includes an on-board debugger, along with example software projects. The new board is automatically detected by Atmel Studio and is extremely flexible with a large prototyping area for access to all MCU signals and an optional Arduino connector for extensibility.

The board is based on the Atmel 8-bit Mega168 device and is available at the end of April via the Atmel Store.
