Press release date: February 20, 2008

Pittsburgh, PA (Feb. 20, 2008) The Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) will present "Aerosol and Atmospheric Optics: Visual Air Quality and Radiation" April 28-May 2, 2008, in Moab, UT. The conference provides a technical forum for advances in the scientific understanding of the effects of aerosols on regional, continental, and global scale haze and radiation balance.

"Air pollution is impacting the aesthetic value of some of the United States' most treasured parks, wilderness areas, and natural views said Adrianne Carolla, A&WMA Executive Director. "This conference allows top meteorologists and environmental professionals to discuss methods to properly monitor and address these air pollution issues."

In addition to addressing topics such as emission sources, atmospheric conditions, aerosol characteristics, monitoring assessments, and modeling methods, the conference will consider the development of state implementation plans for the Regional Haze Rule.

A session on atmospheric nitrogen will address increasing concerns of the effects of atmospheric nitrogen on haze and nitrogen deposition on ecosystems.

Professional development courses, three full-day and one half-day, designed to provide both a technical foundation and a timely refresher, will be offered on-site prior to the conference.
