Arkema Showcases at PLAST Milan 2012

PLAST, one of the world's leading events for the plastics and rubber industry, is held in Milan every three years. The 2012 edition from May 8th to 12th will enable Arkema to reaffirm its position as a key player of the polymer and plasticiser industry with its ranges of PMMA acrylic glass, functional polyolefins, heat-sealing copolyamides, PVDF, plastic additives and organic peroxides. These various products will be showcased on stand C46 - Hall 9 through four application hubs: transportation/automotive, energy, lifestyle, and construction.

o Altuglas® acrylic resins

This range of PMMA resins offers an outstanding combination of properties and performances for aesthetically and finely designed objects: excellent optical clarity, weathering resistance, and high design flexibility. These Altuglas® resins are available in a large number of grades and colours so as to fulfil the precise requirements of extrusion moulding and injection moulding applications.

o Functional polyolefins

o Evatane® Ethylene - Vinyl Acetate (EVA) copolymers are used for the manufacture of hotmelt glues and adhesives as well as in cable applications.

o Lotryl® Ethylene - Acrylate copolymers are used for the manufacture of thermofoil, profiles and flexible pipes.

o Orevac® and Lotader® coextrusion binders are used in multilayer packaging and thermofoil.

o Heat-sealing copolyamides

Platamid® copolyamides are used for bonding materials in the textile industry (garments and automotive interior trims). 100% or partially bio-sourced Platamid® are also available.

o PVDF fluorinated polymers

Kynar® Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) is valued for its excellent toughness in metal coatings for chemical engineering, cable manufacture, and in the form of film as protective layer for the backsheet of photovoltaic panels. Kynar® and Kynar Flex® PVDF grades for injection moulding and extrusion are used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries for their outstanding corrosion resistance.

o Plastic additives, impact modifiers and process aids:

o Durastrength® acrylic impact modifiers impart excellent properties in terms of impact resistance, primarily for rigid PVC and engineering plastics such as polycarbonate (PC) and PC alloys (PC/ABS, PC/Polyesters, etc.).

o Clearstrength® MBS (Methyl Methacrylate, Butadiene and Styrene) copolymer impact modifiers are used in applications in which PVC requires high transparency and impact resistance. Their main applications are laminated and extruded film and sheet, blown bottles, and pipes.

o Plastistrength® acrylic additives are used as process aid for the most rigid vinyl formulations such as profiles, pipes, laminated sheet, blow-moulded bottles, and foam profiles and sheet.

o Luperox® organic peroxides are key in many processes:

o Radical polymerisation of commodity polymers like polystyrene and styrene copolymers, PVC, low density polyethylene and acrylics. They work directly on the monomer during polymerisation.

o The cold and hot curing of unsaturated polyester resins.

o Crosslinking, which consists in bonding polymer chains together to improve their mechanical properties, including temperature stability.
