Arkeia's Windows Agent Combines VSS Snapshot, Progressive Deduplication(TM), and Online Disaster Recovery in One Easy-to-Use Solution

SAN DIEGO - Arkeia Software, a leading provider of fast, easy-to-use, and affordable network backup solutions, today announced the availability of its upgraded Windows agent, offering Progressive Deduplication and online Disaster Recovery to Windows Servers, Hyper-V as well as Microsoft applications such as MS Exchange, SharePoint and SQL Server.

Fast, Highly-Compressed Snapshots of Hyper-V Virtual Machines

Arkeia's source-side block-level deduplication technology, combined with Microsoft Virtual Shadow-Copy System (VSS) support, allows backup of only changed block of Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines. Arkeia's data deduplication manages a single pool of unique blocks across all the servers protected by Arkeia backup server. As a result, both the virtual machines hosted by a single Hyper-V server, and all the Hyper-V servers on the network share a single deduplication pool for maximum efficiency and cost-savings.

Virtual environments have natural data redundancy because each virtual machine maintains it own copy of an operating systems and applications. Arkeia's progressive deduplication eliminates this redundancy so backups of virtual environments are faster and the resulting backup sets are more highly compressed, bringing savings in bandwidth and backup storage requirements.

Rapid Bare Metal Disaster Recovery for Microsoft Windows

Arkeia's Bare Metal Disaster Recovery leverages the Arkeia back-up infrastructure and is compatible with full, differential, or incremental backups. This solution automates recovery of a Windows machine, limiting human intervention to accelerate recovery. Unlike other solutions that tout "instant recovery," Arkeia recovers bare metal machines from deduplicated backup sets.

Recovery is fast and simple. Administrators can boot the bare metal machine from any source: network, CD, or USB drive. Without intervention Arkeia restores data and reboots, leaving the machine running as it was after its last incremental (or any other) backup.

"I've conducted simulated system failures to test recovery capabilities," explains Nicholas Brenckle, Facilities Manager, DSL.net. "The Arkeia Disaster Recovery Option makes restoration a snap. I simply insert the disk and walk away. Three hours later the server is completely rebuilt. It's amazing."

Microsoft Windows and Application Support

Arkeia offers backup agents for Windows Server 2000, 2003, 2008, 2008R2 as well as Windows desktops with XP, Vista, and Version 7. Specialized backup agents are available for databases, applications, and directory servers such as Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory, Exchange and SharePoint, as well as Oracle, MySQL, Lotus Domino, and IBM DB2.
