Approved ANSI/AMCA Standard defines fan efficiency grades.

Press Release Summary:

AMCA International announced that Board of Standards Review of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved ANSI/AMCA Standard 205 on May 4, 2012. Said document, which defines fan efficiency grades (FEGs), includes within its scope fans with 5 in. or greater impeller diameter that operate with shaft power of 750 W (1 hp) and above and have total efficiency calculated according to ANSI/AMCA 210, ANSI/AMCA 230, AMCA 260, or ISO 5801.

ANSI/AMCA Standard 205 - Energy Efficiency Classification for Fans has Been Approved as an American National Standard by ANSI

Arlington Heights, IL USA - The Air Movement and Control Association International, Inc. (AMCA International) announced that the Board of Standards Review of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved the document on May 4, 2012.

ANSI/AMCA Standard 205 defines fan efficiency grades (FEG), an energy efficiency classification for fans. The scope includes fans having an impeller diameter of 125 mm (5 in) or greater, operating with a shaft power 750 W (1 hp) and above, and having a total efficiency calculated according to one of the following fan test standards: ANSI/AMCA 210, ANSI/AMCA 230, AMCA 260, or ISO 5801. All other fans are excluded. The standard only applies to the fan, not the fan drive or the fan system.

This standard may be used by legislative or regulatory bodies for defining the energy efficiency requirements of fans used in specific applications. AMCA 205 is referenced in the 2012 International Green Construction Code and is under consideration for ANSI/ASHRAE/IES 90.1.

Visit the AMCA Energy Initiatives website at www.amca.org/feg/codes-and-standards.aspx for more information on fan efficiency grades and to download a PDF of ANSI/AMCA Standard 205.

AMCA International is accredited by ANSI as a standards developer using the "canvass" method. The canvass method provides and promotes a process that verifies the principles of openness have been followed in the approval procedure. It also ensures that a consensus of those individuals who are directly and materially affected by the standard(s) has been achieved.

The Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International, Inc. is a not-for-profit international association of the world's manufacturers of related air system equipment- primarily, but not limited to: fans, louvers, dampers, air curtains, airflow measurement stations, acoustic attenuators, and other air system components for the industrial, commercial and residential markets. AMCA's mission is to promote the health, growth, and integrity of the air movement and control industry consistent in the interests of the public.
