OULU, Finland -
Enables operators to more effectively analyse their services, optimise their networks, and ultimately improve the end-user experience
Anite, a global leader in wireless network testing technology, and OPTICOM, the leading provider of signal-based perceptual measurement technology for voice, audio and video, today announced a partnership whereby Anite will implement OPTICOM's new streaming video quality testing algorithm, PEVQ-S, in its Nemo wireless network testing tools. As a result, network operators and service providers will be able to more accurately evaluate their streaming video service levels from a subscriber's viewpoint.
With a growing demand for OTT (over-the-top content) streaming video services (such as IPTV and YouTube) there is also an increasing need to accurately evaluate subscriber Quality-of-Experience (QoE) and Quality-of-Service (QoS). In addition, the wide variety of mobile devices offering different performance levels and screen sizes introduces new challenges for service providers. PEVQ-S is an advanced framework algorithm developed by OPTICOM for full-reference video quality analysis in adaptive streaming environments. It combines FR high accuracy video quality measurements with real-time measurements, even on mobile devices. PEVQ-S will enhance the streaming video quality testing capabilities of Nemo tools by offering standardised exact qualification of video quality and the ability to benchmark video streaming QoE levels, identify perceivable artifacts of network congestion, and to indicate the available headroom for optimisation. PEVQ-S algorithm will be implemented in the Nemo product line during the second half of 2014.
"With PEVQ-S we are the first to present a comprehensive, standards-based video quality measurement for OTT services that is able to accurately benchmark subjective subscriber QoE in a long-term context, rather than just testing snapshots of a few seconds," says Michael Keyhl, Founder and CEO of OPTICOM. "PEVQ-S is currently the only tool in the market which not only detects poorly perceived video quality, but at the same time gives a useful indication of the available headroom for QoE optimisation from a subscriber's subjective point of view. We are very enthusiastic about Anite's strong support for PEVQ-S right away from the start - it's great to see one of the key market leaders for mobile network testing premiere our technology for the benefit of the global market."
"The world is currently experiencing an explosion in mobile data traffic – consumers expect to download more content, more quickly, and with consistent network service at all times. The implementation of PEVQ-S algorithm in Anite's Nemo tools further strengthens our QoE and QoS testing capabilities, enabling our customers to more effectively analyse their services, optimise their networks and ultimately improve end-user experience," says Jussi Lemilainen, Vice President, Product Management and Business Development at Anite's Network Testing business. He continues, "OPTICOM has been setting the standards for signal-based perceptual measurement technology and we are very pleased to continue to collaborate with them."
Anite will demonstrate Nemo tools at stand 6I50 in Hall 6 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 24-27 February, 2014. For more information, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

OPTICOM GmbH is the leading vendor for Voice, Audio and Video quality measurement technology and OEM products for the analysis of mobile and IP based networks. Since its foundation as a spin-off from Fraunhofer's MP3 development team, the pioneers in perceptual quality testing have provided to date six International world-class standards for audio-visual quality evaluation, including PESQ, PEAQ and PEVQ. After the great success with PESQ - the industry standard for telephony voice quality testing with more than 30.000 licensed installations worldwide - the experts from Germany have been the driving force behind POLQA, the new ITU-T Recommendation P.863 and designated PESQ successor. POLQA forms the next-generation mobile voice quality testing standard for HD-Voice, VoIP, 3G and 4G/LTE, and is being offered by OPTICOM in distinct form factors for PC lab testing, OEM libraries and mobile apps.
PEVQ-S, the novel test algorithm for QoE Measurement of Streaming Video marks the very latest achievement in the evolution of perceptual testing by extending existing International Standards to fit the needs of the industry's fast pace.
OPTICOM's proven OEM technology can be found in most state-of-the-art products from leading T&M vendors. OPTICOM GmbH is a privately owned company based in Erlangen, Germany. For more information, please visit http://www.pevq.org, or http://www.opticom.de.
