Multi-Boat Partnership Arrangement Signed for Additional Astute-Class Submarines

WESTERLY, RI, January 21, 2008 - AMETEK SCP, a world leader in underwater cable and connector solutions for military and commercial applications, has been awarded an $11-million contract from BAE Systems to provide hull penetrators and associated cable assemblies for the Audacious, the fourth submarine in the Royal Navy's Astute Class of nuclear attack submarines.

In addition, AMETEK SCP has signed a Performance Partnering Arrangement (PPA) with BAE Systems to continue providing hull penetrators and cable assemblies to the Astute Class submarine construction program. It is one of only three arrangements to date signed by BAE Systems for that program.

"AMETEK SCP has enjoyed an excellent relationship with BAE Systems over the last seven years providing hull penetrators and cable assemblies for the first three Astute-Class submarines-Astute, Ambush and Artful," notes H. Ian McGavisk, AMETEK Vice President of Engineered Materials, Interconnects and Packaging. "Our contract for Audacious, along with our partnering agreement for the planned three additional vessels in the Astute Class program, further strengthens our relationship with BAE Systems.'

"BAE Systems is pleased to partner with AMETEK SCP and greatly appreciates its continuing support for this important program. The process we have been through to agree to the PPA has further strengthened the excellent working relationship we have with AMETEK SCP," comments Ian Burns, Head of Supply Chain Astute Boat 4 + for BAE Systems.

BAE Systems is the prime contractor for the Astute Class of nuclear-powered submarines--the largest and most powerful attack submarine ever built in Britain for the Royal Navy. The Astute, the first submarine in the class, was launched in June 2007. Construction of the Astute Class submarines is regarded as one of the most challenging design and engineering projects ever undertaken, comparing in complexity with the US Space Shuttle. Ambush, Artful and Audacious are currently under construction at BAE System's Submarine Solutions' Shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, England.

AMETEK SCP is committed to providing support to BAE Systems with its Barrow-in-Furness manufacturing facility for emergent requirements for molded assemblies and services onboard the submarines at the BAE Systems' shipyard throughout the duration of the program.

BAE Systems is a global defense and aerospace company delivering a full range of products and services for air, land and naval forces worldwide with annual sales exceeding $25 billion in 2006.

AMETEK SCP is a leader in custom electrical and optical connectors, cable assemblies and hull penetrators that are widely found on the U.S. submarine fleet as well as many other of the world's navies. AMETEK SCP also provides electrical interconnect solutions for a wide range of extreme environments, including undersea, oil field, nuclear and aerospace that draw upon its extensive knowledge of submarine systems and expertise in electrical connector and data transmission technologies.

AMETEK SCP is a unit of AMETEK, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices with sales of more than $2 billion.
