Press release date: August 1, 2006

Las Vegas, NV, August, 2006 - American ELTEC offers a family of five PCI Express frame grabbers that can be used in conjunction with its new EUROCOM 400 COM Express single board computer with dual-core IntelŽ XeonŽ processor LV 2.0 GHz CPU.

Today, most standard PCs have four plug-ins featuring x1 PCI Express interfaces. In addition, servers also offer x4 or even x8 slots, permitting transfer rates of up to two Gigabytes per second. COM Express on the EUROCOM 400 provides x8, x4, x2, and x1 PCIe lanes to transport data.

"Our range of PCI Express frame grabbers with single-lane interface (x1) has already been on the market since 2004, and is currently being expanded by even more powerful members with x4 and x8 interfaces," said Martin Goerner, Sales Director for ELTEC Worldwide. "ELTEC is also applying FPGA technology for these latest frame grabbers to permit flexible response to all requirements."

In industrial image processing applications, where digitization begins immediately after an external trigger signal, the use of reset/restart cameras is frequently required. The PC_EYEŽ/MONO frame grabber is designed to support this operating mode for four cameras in multiplex mode. Even this single-lane version offers twice the speed of conventional PCI frame grabbers at 250 Mbytes/sec.

The PC_EYEŽ/RGB is a color frame grabber for PCI Express. It supports two RGB cameras in multiplex mode with reset/restart functions. For easy connecting with standard RGB cable, it is equipped with two 15-pin D-Sub connectors. The PC_EYEŽ/RGB supports the PCI Express (x1 - 1 lane) interface at more than twice the data rate of a 32-bit PCI interface.

The PC_EYEŽ/QUADRO is designed for use with up to four simultaneously running synchronized cameras. It digitizes four parallel, independent monochrome image signals (quadro mode) from free running cameras. In quadro mode, the images are stored as four separate monochrome images in an 8-bit-per-pixel format. The board design is based on two programmable FPGAs - one contains the PCI Express interface; the other integrates the complete frame grabber functionality, including FIFOs, sequencers and sync generators. These function blocks enable plug-and-play operation, as well as simple modifications through respective software updates.

The first in ELTEC's PCI Express frame grabber family, the PC_EYEŽ/ASYNC is a frame grabber for four simultaneous unsynchronized monochrome input channels. It enables the simultaneous recording of four unsynchronized monochrome 40 MHz and 8-bit input signals via four independent AD converters. Reset/restart functions are given for each channel via four separate trigger inputs. The parallel recording and storage in main and graphics memories is supported by real-time DMA.

The PC_EYEŽ/SEC frame grabber was developed specifically for security and monitoring applications. It interfaces to up to 16 standard composite video (CVBS) color cameras conforming to NTSC standards. Each camera is connected to its own analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and has its own color separator, making it possible to switch cameras in the digital domain, without losing pictures. This enables a virtually uninterrupted depiction of events in all areas being monitored by the cameras. The PC_EYEŽ/SEC supports the PCI Express version 1.1, with a speed of 2.5 Gbps, x1 (single lane) width, and a bandwidth of 250 Mbytes.

Pricing for American ELTEC's PCI Express frame grabbers varies depending upon model and quantity. The PC_EYEŽ/MONO frame grabber is priced at $682 in single piece quantities. For additional pricing details, contact American ELTEC.
