Alltech Firmly Establishes its Presence in Mexico with Opening of First Wholly Owned Office
[Guadalajara, MEXICO] - As part of a worldwide initiative to move closer to its local customers, global animal health and nutrition company Alltech entered a new era Tuesday as it snipped the ribbon on the company's first wholly owned office in Mexico.
"I am confident that Alltech Mexico can be a $50 million contributor in Alltech's ambitious global quest to reach $4 billion within the next five years," said Dr. Guilherme Minozzo, Alltech's vice president of Latin America. "Although Alltech has had a strong presence in Mexico for more than 25 years with distribution through Dr. Gladys Hoyos as well as two flagship production facilities, we look forward now to working directly with our local customers in the region"
Alltech de México S.A. de C.V. was originally established through a joint venture between Dr. Pearse Lyons, Alltech's president and founder, and Dr. Gladys Hoyos. With a background in biotechnology, Dr. Hoyos saw an opportunity to improve Mexico's agricultural production with Alltech's natural, yeast-derived technologies at time when most people were thinking little about traceability, transparency, and alternatives to antibiotic use. Dr. Lyons, a fermentation expert, identified in Mexico an established fermentation capability, natural raw materials, and the invaluable resource of a talented workforce.
The combination proved unbeatable. The two visionaries went from strength to strength in the marketplace, establishing two production facilities, including a solid state fermentation (SSF) plant in Serdan, Mexico, that was the first to be built in North America in more than 50 years. Mexico also became home to Alltech's only yucca processing plant.
Now moving to complete ownership by Alltech, a new leadership team was announced for Alltech Mexico. Ricardo Sahagún, one of Dr. Hoyos' first employees, will assume responsibilities as general manager. He will be assisted by Paul Kilgallen, manager of Alltech's SSF plant in Serdan.
"The growing demand for food in addition to the high cost of production drives us to seek innovative and profitable nutritional solutions. This is where Alltech Mexico will play a key role, helping the industry to move forward as we continue to supply safe and reliable feedstuffs to our end consumers," said Sahagún at the ribbon-cutting.
In presenting the new 14-member Alltech Mexico team, including sales and marketing staff, Dr. Pearse Lyons remarked, "It takes three things to achieve success: talent, clear goals, and chemistry. The Alltech Mexico team has those three qualities and will be a strong element in Alltech's quest to become number one in the animal health and nutrition market."
