How much noise is too much noise ?
Identify noise sources in the workplace and monitor them carefully. OSHA regulates that noise levels that exceed 85dBA that hearing protection must be provided by the employer.
If you do not know your noise levels you should get noise monitoring equipment. If you don't have access to noise monitoring equipment a good guideline is when you need to shout to be heard more than 3 feet away the noise level is most likely of 85dBA.

Under OSHA regulations new employees must undergo audiometric testing and existing employees must be tested annually to detect hearing problems.
