All Edmund Optics Japan Employees Reported Safe
Facility in Akita Sustains Minimal Damage
March 14, 2010, Barrington, NJ. - Edmund Optics has reported that thankfully all the EO employees in Japan are safe and that there has been no major structural damage to their factory. EO will continue to assess any potential damage to the infrastructure stability, impact on work in progress, and inventory levels to determine the status of supply chain logistics. Delays in shipment are expected due to intermittent electricity, fuel rationing, infrastructure damage, and inaccessibility to major transportation. Shipping has been severely restricted in the region but EO is actively working with shipping carriers to address potential solutions.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and our concern for the safety and survival of the citizens of Japan are foremost in our hearts," said Thomas Kessler, Vice President of Global Sales. "Our commitment to our customers is also extremely important and we are working unceasingly to meet our obligations with minimal disruption to service."
Kessler has issued the following letter to EO customers worldwide, apprising them of the impact of this devastating earthquake on their production, shipping and service capabilities.
Dear Customers,
We are pleased to report that our staff in Japan is safe and our factories were unharmed by the recent earthquake and subsequent aftershocks. While every attempt is being made to continue production at our main factory in Northern Japan, Akita Prefecture, we are currently limited by electrical outages and restricted shipping. Our Japan staff is exploring every possible option to expedite EO goods to available and open airports; however, substantial delays are expected.
Manufacturing Operation and Shipping Status:
o Manufacturing operations is focused on getting all critical equipment up and running with an emphasis on thin films coatings.
o We are actively following all Governmental guidelines for electricity conservation.
o We are experiencing severely restricted shipping of products and supplies into and out of Akita.
o We are in touch with UPS and other carriers to determine alternative options.

o Edmund Optics is investigating transferring any qualified projects to our Singapore and Pennsburg, PA facilities to meet customer demand.
