Press release date: October 2, 2006

INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 2 -- BD Logic blood glucose meter users can receive a free ACCU-CHEK blood glucose system (meter and strips) by calling 1-888-355-4242. Roche will be providing a starter kit which includes a coupon for a free ACCU-CHEK® blood glucose system, redeemable at a retailer of the users' choice. Last week, Becton, Dickinson announced that they would be exiting their blood glucose monitoring business. Roche Diagnostics made the announcement today in order to ensure that BD's consumers can continue to closely manage their disease through self-testing.

"BD has made valuable contributions to diabetes patient care and will continue to do so with their other diabetes products. We're here to help their consumers and healthcare professionals in any way that we can with our portfolio of ACCU-CHEK blood glucose systems," said Don Dumoulin, Senior Vice President, Diabetes Care, Roche Diagnostics.

ACCU-CHEK products are preferred on most health plans, and have wide retail and mail order distribution.

Two blood glucose systems are available through this offer -- the ACCU-CHEK Aviva and ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus systems. The ACCU-CHEK Aviva system has a wide mouth on the test strip which quickly pulls in the small blood sample and is designed to fill the very first time. It is packaged with the ACCU-CHEK Multiclix lancet device which has a patented, lancet drum with six preloaded lancets. The ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus system is an integrated system that provides the convenience of an all-in-one system. The system features a preloaded drum with 17 test strips, no coding(1) and the ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus detachable lancet device for one-handed operation.
