Air & Waste Management Association Hires New Executive Director



Pittsburgh, PA - The Air Waste Management Association is pleased to announce that Jim Powell has joined the Association as Executive Director.



In his new role, Jim will work to grow and service membership, provide current and timely programming, and move the Association forward into the next stage of its development.



“We are excited to have Jim join the A&WMA staff. Jim’s work as an Association volunteer and career experience will be a valuable asset to A&WMA and will help our organization expand and reach its strategic goals,” said Bob Hall, Interim Executive Director. 



Jim brings with him, more than 37 years of technical and project management experience in the energy, environmental, and consulting service industries. His areas of expertise include environmental engineering, air quality analysis, green house gas determination and carbon footprint measurement, energy management, and facility siting.



He has been a member of the A&WMA for more than 30 years. In that time Jim has held various leadership roles in the A&WMA’s Chapters, Sections, and the International Association. His roles have included founding chair of the Iowa Chapter, director of the Upper Midwest Section, chair and director of the Lake Michigan States Section, and vice chair of the Sections & Chapters Council.



Jim’s extensive experience with the Association and its membership allows him to quickly assess needs and respond accordingly to provide value to the membership and prospective members.



Prior to joining the A&WMA, Jim worked as Senior Associate/Office Manager for AMEC Environmental & Infrastructure in Chicago, Illinois.



Since 1994, Jim has been registered as a Qualified Environmental Professional by the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice.



Jim holds a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. He has also earned a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in General Science and Geography from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.



The A&WMA would also like to sincerely thank Bob Hall for serving as the Association’s Interim Executive Director for the past 6 ½ months.
