Agilent Technologies Announces Availability of USB-IF-Certified Fixture Kits for USB 3.0 Compliance Tests

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced the availability of fixture kits for USB 3.0 connectors and cable-assembly compliance tests. The fixture kits enable design engineers to connect test equipment to USB 3.0 connectors and cable assemblies used in portable consumer electronic devices so they can test for potential compliance issues.

The fixture kits are used in conjunction with the Agilent E5071C ENA network analyzer Option TDR (ENA Option TDR), a one-box solution covering all the measurements required for USB 3.0 compliance as defined by the latest cable and connector test specification from the USB Implementers Forum. The forum has certified the fixture kits for USB 3.0 connectors and cable-assembly compliance tests.

Engineers can easily debug data signal-integrity issues using ENA Option TDR and USB fixture kits. Agilent also offers a method of implementation and dedicated state files for USB 3.0 connectors and cable-assembly compliance tests. The method of implementation guides users through the compliance tests and introduces the most efficient test procedure. The state file allows designers to skip the tedious setup operation for the compliance tests.

The USB fixture kits are provided by Hosiden, a Japanese manufacturer. The kits are available through Hosiden's distributor, BitifEye Digital Test Solutions.

"Agilent has worked actively in the USB-IF to establish better compliance tests," said Hidekazu Manabe, an Agilent engineer who collaborated with the USB-IF to develop the USB 3.0 test specification. "Our goal is to provide the most efficient compliance and characterization tool to help our customers achieve conformance with their USB 3.0 products for the consumer and mobile industries."

"The USB test fixture kits enable high-quality signal access for full compliance testing with Agilent's E5071C ENA network analyzer Option TDR," said Alexander Schmitt, CEO of BitifEye. "This combination provides our global customers with a comprehensive USB 3.0 compliance test solution for connectors and cable assemblies."

Information about Agilent's E5071C ENA network analyzer Option TDR is available at www.agilent.com/find/ena-tdr. Information about the USB fixture kits is available at www.bitifeye.com/cms/front_content.php?idcat=135 . The method of implementation is available at www.agilent.com/find/ena-tdr_usb3-cabcon.

Design engineers can see the new USB 3.0 test fixture at DesignCon 2011, Feb. 1-2, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Booth 201. Agilent's wide selection of high-speed digital solutions includes essential tools to pinpoint problems, optimize devices and ensure compliant designs.
