(Cincinnati, Ohio - 11/12/10) - Advantech, a global embedded computing leader providing embedded platform solutions across multiple vertical markets, announced it will spend NTD$ 93 million in cash to acquire 100% shares of ACA Digital Corporation.
ACA Digital Corporation is a Taiwan-based company founded in 2005. The company consists of 58 employees. ACA Digital specializes in industrial ruggedized portable products as well as design, manufacturing, and integration services. Its product lines include ruggedized tablet PCs, handheld devices, and PDAs; applications are targeted at military, law enforcement, manufacturing & warehousing, and transportation applications. ACA Digital's clients are located in Europe, United States, Japan, Taiwan, and China and its estimated revenue is expected to reach NTD$ 100 million in 2010.
Advantech CEO KC Liu said, "Within Cloud Computing and the Internet of Things (IoT), more and more business opportunities need technical solutions with longer life batteries and portable devices that can cope with harsh environments. According to a VDC report, the revenue for rugged mobile computers will reach $ 7.9 billion by 2013. We are very optimistic about the future of industrial rugged handheld and portable computers. The acquisition of ACA Digital will complete our portfolio of robust industrial products in portable computing and will expand our product development to proactively encompass the life automation industry. ACA R&D team's integration of the Advantech will immensely enhance our operating competitiveness in the handheld application market. "
After the merger becomes effective, the ACA Digital team will move to Advantech's Neihu headquarters and its manufacturing product lines will transfer to Advantech's manufacturing facilities in Taipei. In the future, Advantech will leverage all resources to develop more portable products to meet ruggedized requirements such as water, dust, and shock resistance, as well as certification to military specifications. With commercially acclaimed industrial design capabilities, Advantech will launch a lineup of standardized products to a highly competitive target market. The combined integration of resources will enrich Advantech's overall portfolio of industrial ruggedized portable products and strengthen ODM services increasing market share around the world.
