Admiral Thad Allen to Headline the Air & Waste Management Association's 104th Annual Conference & Exhibition in Orlando

Pittsburgh, PA - The Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) has announced that Admiral Thad Allen, United States Coast Guard (Retired) and National Incident Commander of the Unified Command response to the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill, will offer the keynote presentation at its 104th Annual Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, FL, June 21-24, 2011.

"We're honored to have Admiral Allen as our keynote speaker," said Mike Kelly, A&WMA Executive Director. "His experiences and comments will enrich the understanding of other presentations in our Technical Program that relate to the lessons of the spill and living with its legacy."

Allen, who led spill response efforts for the United States immediately after stepping down as Commandant of the Coast Guard in preparation for his retirement, also led Coast Guard search and rescue efforts during the response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Allen retired from the Coast Guard on June 30, 2010, but continues to serve as National Incident Commander for the Gulf spill as a civilian. He is also a Senior Fellow for the Rand Corp, a non-profit research and analysis organization aimed at improving policy decision making.

A&WMA's 2011 Annual Conference & Exhibition will also feature Dr. Timothy Townsend of the University of Florida, who will intricately explore e-waste during the Association's annual "Critical Review" presentation. Townsend, a leading expert on waste management and e-waste challenges, will have his discussion and conclusions on tackling this growing global problem critiqued by a select panel of peers, as well as by audience members and conference attendees.

A&WMA's 2011 Annual Conference & Exhibition will be held at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando. In addition to presentations from Allen and Townsend, the event features an extensive exhibition hall, exclusive technical tours, the student Environmental Challenge International (ECi), professional development courses, and countless opportunities to network with leading environmental professionals from around the world.

Platinum sponsors for the event include 3M, Walt Disney World Resorts, and Golder Associates. Sponsorships and exhibition opportunities for the June event are now available. For additional information, visit www.awma.org/ACE2011, or contact Malissa Wood at mwood@awma.org, or 1+412-232-3444.
