Livermore, CA, 94551
USA

Press release date: September 5, 2006

CHICAGO--Sept. 5, 2006--Adept Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADEP), the leading provider of intelligent vision-guided robotics and global robotics services, will unveil its SmartFeed application software for manufacturing automation and robotics at the IMTS 2006 show, Chicago, IL, September 6-13, in booth B-6270. SmartFeed technology will allow manufacturers to automate a wide range of part feeding and part sorting processes.

Considered a major opportunity for cost reduction and operational performance, SmartFeed re-establishes Adept's leadership in advanced vision-guided robot motion-control. The technology will be available as an advanced application package on the Adept SmartController(TM), available for a wide range of networked SCARA, 6-axis articulated and linear cartesian robot mechanisms. The SmartController's multi-brand and multi-generational capabilities allow for both Adept and selected non-Adept robot mechanisms to be upgraded to the SmartFeed technology platform.

In addition, Adept will be showcasing the SmartController PLC, performing configuration, initialization and application operations directly from a Rockwell® programmable logic controller, including a fully implemented robot teach pendant using Allen-Bradley® PanelView(TM) products.

"Adept products are being used in the most demanding part handling processes at speeds unrealized by our competitors," said Robert Bucher CEO. "With SmartFeed technology, Adept has real part-handling solutions for real manufacturing problems."

Adept's modernizing material handling automation technology can be applied to a wide array of industries, such as automotive, consumer products and lab automation. Adept's SmartFeed product portfolio introduction is in alignment with IMTS 2006, with the focus on manufacturing technology to cut production costs and meet the needs of the booming international marketplace.
