LENEXA, Kan., Sept. 11 / -- Mediware Information Systems announced today that University of Louisville Hospital and Decatur (Ill.) Memorial Hospital have implemented and are live using Mediware's HCLL(TM) Transfusion Management software system. More than 300 top tier healthcare facilities have licensed HCLL since the product was introduced four years ago. At the close of the Company's last fiscal year (June 30, 2007) more than 60 of these facilities were live.
Mediware has provided blood bank management software for more than 25 years and has been a leading innovator since the market's inception. HCLL(TM) Transfusion, the company's flagship blood management product provides automated support for highly regulated blood processes that help reduce transfusion errors, improve patient safety and maximize operational efficiency.
University of Louisville Hospital is a leading academic medical center with state-of-the-art specialty centers and services in trauma care, stroke, high-risk obstetrics, radiology and diagnostic imaging and cancer care. According to Lisa Machor, blood bank technical coordinator, Mediware's HCLL solves the hospital's need to automate the manual and potentially error-prone process of making bar-coded labels for blood products, now mandated by guidelines from the FDA. "HCLL combines label production and product verification in one step to enhance patient safety," said Machor. "We are pleased to have this information management tool to help achieve compliance with the International Society for Blood Transfusion standard."
"The data conversion for HCLL was extremely well done and this was one of the smoothest 'go-lives' we've had," said Devin Pope, a systems analyst at Decatur Memorial. "The system is very easy to use," added John Little, laboratory manager. "Even the FDA liked it."
According to John Damgaard, chief operating officer of Mediware, HCLL is designed to manage blood products administered at hospitals and centralized transfusion service facilities. It is a powerful software tool for managing the hospital's blood supply and maximizing the safety, efficiency and productivity of the entire transfusion process.
"Within transfusion services, product inventories and administration processes are tightly controlled and monitored to ensure blood and patient safety. Each product must be monitored from donor to recipient but data throughout the process isn't valuable unless it can be captured, extracted and communicated," Damgaard said.
